Summary:
Under the supervision of the Accounting Supervisor, the Staff Accountant III for Fixed Assets will have the responsibility of recording the cost of newly-acquired and constructed fixed assets (both tangible and intangible), tracking existing fixed assets, recording depreciation, and accounting for the disposition of fixed assets. Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Create and monitor a system of controls, procedures, and forms for the recordation of fixed assets.

  • Recommend to management any updates to accounting policies related to fixed assets.

  • Record fixed asset acquisitions and dispositions in the accounting system.

  • Track the compilation of CIP costs into fixed asset accounts, and close out those accounts once the related projects have been completed.

  • Reconcile the balance in the fixed asset subsidiary ledger to the summary-level account in the general ledger.

  • Calculate and analyze depreciation for all fixed assets.

  • Review and update the detailed schedule of fixed assets and accumulated depreciation.

  • Calculate asset retirement obligations for those fixed assets to which AROs are applicable.

  • Review and process impairment calculations for tangible and intangible assets.

  • Analyze and record decommissioning of assets.

  • Conduct analyses related to fixed assets as requested by management.

  • Prepare audit schedules relating to fixed assets, and assist the auditors in their inquiries.

  • Review GAAP to Tax reconciliations and related fixed asset reporting.

  • Prepare fixed assets roll-forward.

  • Analyze and process appropriate reclassifications of capital and operating expenditures.

  • Assist in development and implementation of streamlined fixed asset processes.

  • Ensure compliance with all SBA policies and procedures.

  • Assist with Sarbanes Oxley documentation and testing requirements.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field of study.

  • 5+ years of corporate accounting experience specializing in fixed assets.

  • Demonstrated knowledge and advanced proficiency working with Microsoft Office Suite software including Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft PowerPoint and Microsoft Outlook.

  • Experience with Great Plains, Wennsoft and Hyperion Financial Management or comparable software preferred.

Language Skills:

  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret financial reports and legal documents.

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills. Ability to tailor content to the level and experience of the audience.

  • Ability to use multiple channels or means to communicate important messages (i.e. memos, meetings, electronic mail).

Mathematical Skills:

  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, proportions, percentages, profit margins, area and volume.

  • Ability to utilize mathematical formulas: to add, subtract, multiply and divide and to calculate decimals and percentages.

  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with abstract and concrete variables.

  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as arithmetic, probability and statistical inference.

  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.

Reasoning Ability:

  • Ability to define and prioritize problems, collect and organize data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions and projections.

  • Ability to think critically, utilizing a logical, systematic, sequential approach.

  • Ability to weigh costs, benefits, risks, and chances for success, in making well informed decisions.
