Staff Accountant II

Overview:

We are seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Staff Accountant to support our client, a major utility company in the Birmingham area. The Staff Accountant position typically involves responsibilities such as reconciling accounts, preparing financial statements, analyzing financial data and more. There may also be budgeting, forecasting, and providing financial analysis to support decision making.

Desired Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting

• 5+ years of accounting experience

• Demonstrated ability to facilitate conversations on complex accounting topics

• Ability to research technical/complex accounting issues

• Extremely strong oral and written communication skills with the ability to understand and explain complex accounting issues

• Strong Interpersonal skills

• Understanding of FERC reporting requirements

• Knowledge of FASB and SEC accounting and reporting standards

Highly Preferred: Advanced degree or CPA , and Technology and/or utility accounting experience

Responsibilities Include:

• Serve as the Chair/Lead of the Technology Accounting Review Committee

• Research and provide sound guidance on technical software and hardware accounting and reporting issues for the client and its subsidiaries

• Assist with accounting conversions as appropriate between the client's Technology Organization, Accounting Research, Corporate Accounting, Budgeting & Reporting, and Property Accounting teams

• Evaluate the impact of new accounting standards and participate in the adoption of the new standards

• Document and communicate complex accounting decisions and cost recovery mechanisms for technology
