Start your career in accounting at Gumbiner Savett Inc.(GS)! We are looking to recruit new graduates to join our team in Santa Monica, CA starting in January 2019. We offer a casual dress atmosphere with a first-rate compensation package.

Staff accountants work in both audit and tax their first year. In audit, you will work on portions of audit and accounting engagements, including preparing the various types of financial statements of the firm. Furthermore, staff accountants will become familiar with the contents of the firms guides, as well as know the rules and regulations of the AICPA and CalCPA. In tax, you will work on various tax engagements and become familiar with pertinent IRC sections and regulations.

Job Duties

The Staff Accountant is responsible for:

  • Participating in general tax planning
  • Preparing medium size accounting engagements involving audited financial statements
  • Analyzing and researching assignments involving materiality and interrelationships of accounts
  • Analyzing internal control method and processes
  • Preparing management letters
  • Performing basic research
  • Preparing basic and moderate tax returns
  • Other duties as assigned by their supervisor(s)


Application Criteria

A Bachelors degree in accounting is required. If an accounting major is not offered, then an accounting minor paired with a major in business administration, economics, or math is acceptable.

  • Students must graduate from a four-year university with a minimum of a 3.2 GPA.
  • Students must be available to begin full-time employment starting January 2019.
  • Highly qualified applicants will show well-rounded skills and a passion to excel in public accounting.

Prepares, reconciles, posts and maintains fiscal, financial and statistical records. Explains and applies general rules and regulations, including rules and procedures of sales and use tax and I.R.S. 1099 reporting, and makes referrals to appropriate sources, as necessary. Contacts various individuals or agencies to resolve discrepancies or obtain information.
