Staff Accountant

Groundworks is seeking a talented Staff Accountant to join our tribe in Virginia Beach, VA!

The Staff Accountant is responsible for a variety of financial procedures including assisting with month-end and year-end closings, various state and local tax filings and balance sheet reconciliations.

Job Responsibilities

• Assist with preparing support schedules for GAAP consolidated financial statements

• Enter financial data into accounting system accurately and timely

• Collaborate with the accounting team in developing and implementing accounting procedures

• Coordinate meetings with both internal and external partners to complete job duties as needed

• Prepare general journal entries that are supported and validated by corroborating schedules or evidence

• Prepare and file tax returns and assist with compliance reporting as needed (example: sales and use tax, personal property, unclaimed property)

• Assist with preparation of ad hoc reporting

• Analyze accounting records, general ledger and subledgers for accuracy

• Perform monthly bank reconciliations and credit card reconciliations

• Perform various monthly balance sheet account reconciliations

• Assist with monitoring and reporting compliance with Company SOPs

• Assist with external audits

• Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree, with a major in accounting, and two years of experience

• Solid understanding of accrual based accounting and GAAP

• Experience with foreign currency a plus but not required

• Strong mathematical and analytical skills and detailed oriented

• Proficient in Microsoft Excel

• Ability to multi-task and prioritize competing deadlines
