Brailsford & Dunlavey is seeking a dynamic staff accountant for our Washington, DC office.

The staff accountant will process purchase and sales documents in accordance with the department Standard Operating Procedures/Internal Controls for Brailsford & Dunlavey.

1.Manage the vendor payment process timely and accurately.

  • Ensure approved documents are coded correctly prior to recordation within the AIS.

  • Enter transactions accurately, ensuring the correct document type, project code and G/L accounts.
    2.Provide support to the accounting team to process client invoices timely and accurately.

  • Work with project managers to assemble invoices in accordance within contractual and financial reporting standards.

  • Compile client invoices, with substantiation, and remit to client timely.
    3.Ensure all client and vendor files are complete, accurate and orderly.

  • Promptly assemble and file financial records (either in physical or digital format) and all vendor correspondence in accordance with department standards.

  • Manage document retention for all vendor files.
    4.Assist with business management matters.

  • Ensure all registrations are current.

  • Handle incoming correspondence as necessary.
    5.Respond to request for information (RFI's) by project staff, clients and vendors.

  • Handle requests in a professional manner while quickly and accurately providing information.

  • Ensure data requests are authorized; protecting information from either internal or external requests that are not legitimate.


Minimum Requirements:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field is required.

  • Two years of full-time work experience is required.

  • Two to three years of experience working in a professional accounting department is preferred.


Technical Competencies

  • Able to use Microsoft Office suite; Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook

  • Proficient in utilizing Accounting Information Systems; at a minimum, Quickbooks, Deltek, Microsoft Office Accounting

POSITION OF THE JOB IN THE ORGANIZATION Department: Finance Reporting to: Accounting Supervisor Scope: Local / Regional / Global KEY RESPONSIBILITIES MISSIONS & ACTIVITIES: * Prepare and record journal entries to include Payroll, Cash, Depreciation and Customer allowances. * Update cash activity daily and reconcile cash monthly * Managing the Fixed Asset on the Sage FAS system * Compile commission check requests monthly with proper approvals and distribute to Accounts Payable for payment * Maintain detail schedules for customer rebates to ensure rebates are taken in accordance with customer contracts * Prepare monthly Balance Sheet reconciliations * Assist with input of International subsidiary financial information into Company's internal Cognos TM1 system * Prepare monthly P&L variance analysis to ensure each functional area is operating within budget, and if not, then provide explanations using general ledger details * Perform other accounting tasks as may be required from time to time by management.
