Description
NATURE OF WORK: The Staff Accountant performs professional operations of accounting by applying the theory and principles of recording, classifying, examining and analyzing the underlying data and records of financial transactions.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
- Assists with monthly closing process, including preparing schedules, entering journal entries, and assisting with financial reporting.
- Prepares reconciliations of asset and liability accounts on a monthly basis to ensure validity and completeness
- Prepares and gets approval of monthly general ledger entries, prepares and posts standard and recurring monthly entries, including adjustments and closing entries
- Maintains the Agency's fixed assets schedule and prepares entries to reflect the addition, retirement or sale of property or equipment
- Maintains the Agency's prepaid schedule and prepares entries to reflect additions and amortization of prepaid items
- Maintains amortization schedules and records necessary adjustments for all Agency notes payable
- Reviews and analyzes selected revenue and expense accounts on a monthly basis to identify any necessary allocations or adjustments
- Prepares and uploads check runs to banking online portal.
- Other Reconciliations and account analysis as requested
- Responsible for certain areas of both internal/external financial reporting
- Maintains accounts for clients whom Valley is the payee.
- Records daily cash receipts for use in bank reconciliation process.
- Assists with audits and special requests

Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: __
- Ability to perform Essential Duties as outlined below.
- High School Graduate or equivalent.
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, or related work experience
- Proficient in the of Microsoft Excel
- Ability to read, write and speak the English language
- Ability to communicate verbally and in writing with individuals of the organization and departments of state government
- Must demonstrate integrity and respect for confidentiality
- Outstanding organizational skills
- Ability to multitask
- Ability to work with limited direct supervision
- Ability to comply with Client's Rights
- Ability to comply with Valley's and Division departmental safety procedures
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: ____
- Experience in healthcare, specifically mental and behavioral health
- Proficient in computer and software skills including, Microsoft suite
- Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP)
