A major player in Portland's healthcare industry is searching for a Staff Accountant. As a Staff Accountant, you will prepare journal entries, monthly and year-end closings, bank reconciliation, fixed asset maintenance, and general ledger reconciliation. During the monthly close, many aspects of internal reporting will be your responsibility. In addition, you will participate in compliance, interact with our external auditors for quarterly reviews and annual audits, and review schedules for the reporting processes. A very involved position, the Staff Accountant spends a good deal of time producing Financial Statements, Cash Flow projections, and Budgets. This Portland, Oregon based firm has a long term temporary position available, and offers an innovative work environment where effort is rewarded. Your responsibilities

  • Ready complex journal entries and account reconciliations including but not limited to cash, prepaid expenses and payroll

  • Ad-hoc tasks and special projects, as needed

  • Maintain capital lease and monthly payment schedules

  • Execute month end close, journal entries, with little supervision

  • Assist in the month end, quarter end and year end closing process including monthly financial close workbook preparation

  • Participate in various department-wide initiatives

  • Report on a wide variety of financial data and communicate it in a useful and understandable manner

  • Support fixed asset ledger, depreciation, and reconciliation

  • Assist in implementation, maintenance and adherence to internal controls under SOX and accounting procedures ensuring compliance with GAAP

  • Be responsible for analysis of income statements and balance sheets and communicate findings to management

Requirements

  • Premium billing for banking and brokerage experience desired

  • Proficiency in journal entries

  • Microsoft Excel experience

  • Account reconciliation experience

  • Working knowledge of spreadsheets and databases

  • BA/BS or equivalent in Accounting, Finance or Economics

  • Be detailed, flexible, and organized

  • Self-starter with efficient time management and organizational skills

  • Recent and relevant accounting experience

  • Current and relevant ERP system experience

  • Ability to work within spreadsheets and databases

  • Strong analytical, communication, and leadership skills

  • Strong organizational, written and verbal communication skills

Qualified candidates will have a basic understanding of payroll and accounting topics and must show an interest in continuing to learn and support other departments with purchasing processes and administration of our expense reimbursement system. This person will also provide support in the month-end close, as well implementing best practices across the team. Additionally, they will assist with special projects as assigned by the Finance team.
