The Salaried Professional Service area of Accountemps is seeking a full time Staff Accountant As Staff Accountant, your duties will include preparing monthly and year-end closings, journal entries, fixed asset maintenance, bank reconciliation, and general ledger reconciliation. A great deal of time in this position will be spent producing Financial Statements, Cash Flow projections, and Budgets. And during the monthly close, your responsibilities will also cover various aspects of internal reporting. In addition, your responsibilities include communicating with our external auditors for quarterly reviews and annual audits, playing an active role in compliance, and reviewing schedules for the reporting processes. What you get to do every single day

  • Be responsible for analysis of income statements and balance sheets and communicate findings to management

  • Ad-hoc reporting and special projects, as needed

  • Manage capital lease and monthly payment schedules

  • Perform month end close, journal entries with minimum supervision

  • Assist in implementation, maintenance and adherence to internal controls under SOX and accounting procedures ensuring compliance with GAAP

  • Commentate on a wide variety of financial data and communicate it in a useful and understandable manner

  • Keep up fixed asset ledger, depreciation, and reconciliation

  • Partake in annual closing processes

  • Ready complex journal entries and account reconciliations including but not limited to cash, prepaid expenses and payroll

  • Participate in various department-wide initiatives


  • Ability to work well in matrix organization and dealing with ambiguity

  • Seizes opportunities to produce results without direct supervision

  • Strong organizational, written and verbal communication skills required

  • 5+ years of recent and relevant accounting experience

  • Ability and willingness to meet business critical deadlines

  • Proficient in ERP systems

  • Spreadsheet and database capabilities

  • High attention to detail

  • Proficient with spreadsheets and databases

  • Strong analytical skills, accuracy and attention to detail

  • Proven knowledge of costing

  • Reporting experience

  • Practical knowledge of inventory

  • Quality experience with inventory analysis

  • Comprehensive knowledge of data entry

  • Expertise in numeric data entry

  • Deep understanding of financial reporting

  • Inventory planning reporting experience

  • Well-founded grasp of Microsoft Excel

  • General familiarity with journal entries

This position will provide assistance and support with the day to day functions of the Support Services Division of the Department of Correction. Responsibilities include entering requisitions in Commbuys and preparation of input of purchasing documentation into Massachusetts Management Accounting and Reporting System (MMARS), preparing payments vouchers for goods and services rendered, maintains accuracy of spreadsheets for logging and report development. The individual will need to confer with agency personnel and outside individuals by telephone, in writing or in person to resolve accounting discrepancies and/or obtain statistical data and documentation for various reports and/or projects necessary to meet Dept. of Correction and State Accounting requirements. Analyze financial reports, records and documents by reconciling financial transactions and statements; verifying the accuracy of accounting entries and financial records; and reviewing the financial policies and procedures; provide assistance to Audit staff, analyze documents and data obtained through field audits and desk reviews to ensure compliance with standard accounting practices and applicable laws, rules and regulations. Performs other duties as assigned. Accountants may have to travel for job related purposes, ability to operate a motor vehicle maybe necessary. The individual will receive and distribute incoming and outgoing mail within the Support Services Division, attend staff meetings, record meeting minutes and attend training sessions. The work hours for this position will be Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: * Good organizational skills with a keen attention to detail necessary to maintain and update databases and must have communication skills both verbal and written. * Working knowledge of MMARS, Commbuys and IMS as well as experience with Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Outlook, Excel, Word, Power Point and knowledge of Access would be helpful. * To exercise sound judgement and to exercise discretion in handling confidential information. Establish and maintain harmonious working relationships and deal tactfully with others, work independently and in a team setting and to follow oral and written instructions. COMMENTS: This is a Civil Service position. *Please note that salaries for union positions are determined according to the provisions of the respective collective bargaining agreement. Substitutions: I. An Associate's or higher degree with a major in accounting, business administration or business management may be substituted for the required (A) experience.* II. Successfully completed education in accounting or business administration in a recognized business school or school of accounting may be substituted for the required (A) experience on the basis of one year of such education above the high school level for six months of the required (A) experience.* * Education toward such a degree will be prorated on the basis of the proportion of the requirements actually completed.
