Description
Under the direction of the Manager of Treasury Services, the Staff Accountant establishes and maintains the integrity of cash, investment, endowment, debt and cashflow accounting, reporting and forecasting. This position requires strong practical finance, data analysis, organization and communication skills to ensure all statutory and fiscal reporting responsibilities are met as well as optimization of cash and investment utilization and reporting.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Cash
Analyzes and forecasts cash based on historical trends and future operational planning
Performs account reconciliations and analysis
Monitors fees and expenses, making recommendations for savings opportunities
Investment
Maintain reporting for investments
Prepare financial statement data related to investments and endowments
Monitor that investment transactions are in accordance with policy
Prepare select materials for Investment Committee meeting
Prepare endowment reporting quarterly
Assist in annual audit.
Debt Management
Assist with the issuance of debt
Develop and maintain debt management policies
Manage debt compliance with reporting on bank covenant requirements, quarterly financial reporting, and other IRS requirements.
Insurance
Maintain claim records and Certificate of Insurance requests
Review insurance to ensure information is up to date
Manage insurance expense budget and payments to carriers
Prepare renewal materials for property and casualty lines
Participate in any RFPs related to insurance
Other
Assist in the preparation of special studies, reports, analyses, and other tasks as required.
Generate ad-hoc reporting and analysis of cash and treasury operations, debt and liquidity, including short-term borrowing and investing
Develop useful, standardized reporting for senior executives
With the Manager of Treasury Services, serve as primary architect for Treasury policies and procedures
Cross trains on assigned areas
Provides vacation coverage for other finance team members
Excels at working with others to meet deadlines
Identifies deficiencies in standard operating procedures and recommends improved processes for implementation
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelors degree in Accounting or Finance
Minimum 5 years of related experience
Specialized Skills:
Experience using standard MS Office tools (e.g. Excel, Word, Outlook)
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Self-starter with a demonstrated ability to achieve results as part of an effective team
Ability to effectively prioritize and multi-task under deadlines
Excellent organization skills are essential
Preferred Qualifications:
CPA and/or MBA in related business concentration
Understanding of investment accounting
Understanding of debt financing and related accounting
Ability to understand, analyze and forecast cashflow, including accounts receivable, government funds, grant funds and other higher education related items
Finance audit practices knowledge
Higher education experience
PeopleSoft knowledge a plus
Bank of America CashPro and Fundriver knowledge a plus
