Job Description:

This is an entry level, unclassified position in Bursar Operations at LSU. The Staff Accountant 1 provides registration, billing, payment, and deposit services for a diverse 32,000+ customer population. Duties include assisting with the Workday Student Finance project, assisting with Workday Customer accounts, cleaning up ledger accounts, handling credit balance refunds and stale dated checks.

30% Participates in Bursar's Office registration process for 10 terms annually. Provides daily customer service to students, parents, departments, and sponsors/donors with questions about fee bills and/or understanding fee bill and billing statement charges and credits, completing registration, and managing account payments and payment options.

35% Assists the Student Financials team with the Workday Student project. This includes, but is not limited to, unit testing, design and configuration, and assisting with report design. Additionally, this position would reconcile existing ledger accounts in Workday Finance and assist Bursar Operations with cleaning up and reconciling accounts as the project nears completion.

25% Assists with Workday Customer for employee-related balances. Assist with troubleshooting issues, reviewing discrepancies, and reconciling the Non-Student Accounts Receivable ledger with outstanding invoices.

Work with other departments to correct customer-related issues. Assist with collections on employee balances in TIS.

10% Assists with the cancelling and reissuance of stale dated refund checks. This includes reaching out to students and/or parents to reissue a check, applying a check to a balance, and/or working with Financial Accounting and Reporting to escheat funds to Louisiana Unclaimed Property.

Handles the release of credits from other departments such as University Recreation. Verifies resignations and monitors tuition and fee credit refunds to ensure all adjustments have been made before refunds are released to students. Performs other duties and special projects as assigned by management.

Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Accounting or closely related field with 24 hours of accounting.

Substitutions: 2 years of directly applicable professional experience can be substituted for 24 hours of accounting or 2 years of professional experience can be substituted for up to 9 hours of accounting. Physical Qualifications: This position requires the physical ability and eye-hand coordination necessary to use a computer terminal, calculator, laptop, tablet, copier, telephone, and other office equipment.

This position requires the ability to sit in the same position for extended periods (3.5 to 4 hours) at a time using continuous hand motions when using a calculator or entering data into the computer system. This position requires the ability to communicate clearly and effectively through the use of phone, email, and direct contact with individuals (including conducting training sessions and presentations). Scheduled or non-scheduled overtime may be required to meet the needs of the division. Occasional travel may be required.
