Position description

Prepares sterile table for each procedure assuring required instruments are available to the physicians including suture, blades, cautery, suction, implants, medication and solutions. Assists in draping the surgical field to ensure correct exposure of operative site with respect to each patient's right to privacy, dignity, safety and comfort.

Provides a quiet environment for the surgical patients. Assists the surgeon when she/he does not have an assistant. Correctly identifies items on back table. Applies basic and current knowledge of surgical instruments for a proficient performance of assigned functions.

Qualifications

Experience: Operating Room Technologist experience preferred.

Education: Graduate from an accredited Surgical Technician Program required.

Operating Room Technologist certification or eligibility for certification required at the time of hire. Surgical Technologist Certification (CST) required within 6 months of hire.

Additional qualifications

Special Skills:
Requires the ability to follow oral and written instructions. Basic computer knowledge and skills required.

License or certification

Licensure & Certification: Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required. Surgical Technologist Certification (CST) required within 6 months of hire (grandfathered prior to 10/15/2014).

Compensation Detail

Education, experience and tenure may be considered along with internal equity when job offers are extended. The minimum pay rate is $23.26 per hour.

Schedule details
8 hour day and evening shifts, with variation in start times. Weekday and weekend on-call hours required, which includes holiday on-call coverage. Current schedules are Monday through Friday with possibility of scheduled weekend shifts anticipated in the future.

Orientation will be full time and take place primarily on day shifts.

Performs analyses on biological specimens, e.g. blood and urine, to aid health care providers in the diagnosis and treatment of patients. Qualifications For MT-Baccalaureate Degree in Medical Technology, Medical/Clinical Laboratory Science, or health related field. Completion of a clinical laboratory internship required. A HEW certificate may be substituted for the specified degree. Applicants with a Baccalaureate Degree in a science or health related field with completion of a clinical laboratory internship or clinical laboratory experience will be considered in the appropriate field of study (i.e. Microbiology). For MLT- Associate's degree from an accredited Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) program or U.S. military Medical Laboratory-training program.
