Northrop Grumman Strategic Space Systems Division has an opening for a Sr. Principal Structures Design Engineer to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position is located in Redondo Beach, CA.

In this role you will:

  • Support upcoming Space programs and will participate in the resolution of complex mechanical design problems for space based platforms and missions involving composite and metallic structures.

  • Perform and lead mechanical design of structures and deployables.

  • Perform requirements definition, conceptual design, preliminary / layout, and detail design, drawing release, design review presentations, and support to fabrication.

  • Lead a multi-discipline work package including interfacing with customer, technical support, and directing and mentoring junior engineers.

  • Work closely with stress, manufacturing, materials and processes and test to develop design requirements, define structural load paths, develop CAD models and prepare engineering drawings to fabricate flight and structural test articles.

  • Provide leadership and oversight of Suppliers to verify/validate mechanical design requirements and ensure qualification/certification deliverables are provided and meet requirements.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline from an accredited university with 9 years of industry engineering experience; OR Masters Degree in STEM with 7 years of industry engineering experience; OR PhD in STEM with 4 years of industry engineering experience

  • Experience with CAD modeling software

  • Working knowledge of engineering drawings and related Bill-of-Materials.

  • Working knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning &Tolerance applications (GD&T).

  • Working knowledge of tolerance stack-up analysis

  • Experience in Composite and/or Metallic Mechanical Design

  • Experience in supporting and/or leading in a design team

  • Candidate must have, and be able to maintain, at least ONE of the following active U.S. Government security clearances:

  • Dept of Defense Top Secret level with a background investigation date within 6 years

  • OR SCI access with a Single Scope Background Investigation (SSBI) completed within 5 year

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor and/or Masters Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, and/or Aerospace

  • Experience working on Special Access Programs

  • Participation in multiple design cycles in spacecraft/aircraft development programs

  • Current SCI clearance

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, be skilled in use of the Microsoft Office software suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Northrop Grumman Strategic Space Systems Division is seeking section managers for Space Vehicle Integration Electrical Design (Sp-VIED) to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. The Sp-VIED section manager reports to the Department Manager of Vehicle Integration Electrical Design within the Vehicle Integration and Subsystems (VI&S) Center of Excellence. Up to 20% of the section manager's time will be spent performing leadership, people management, and supervisory duties such as management of personnel (direction & coaching), program/project reviews, coordination of job assignments, staffing, recruiting, timecard approval, performance reviews, and process improvement activities. In addition, the individual will support business development activities, proposals, and design reviews in support of the section. The balance of the SM's time (80% ) will be spent providing engineering support in the areas of Electrical Power Subsystem Engineering (including Solar Array and Battery), Electrical Design Integration, Command & Telemetry Database, and/or Cable & Harness Engineering to various Space Park programs located or based out of Redondo Beach, CA. Basic Qualifications: * Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, and/or technical degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics) discipline from an accredited university with 5 years of experience in the Aerospace Engineering Field; OR Masters of Science degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics and/or technical degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline from an accredited university with 7 years of experience in the Aerospace Engineering Field. * Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government security clearance at SCI or TS/SSBI level. Preferred Qualifications: * Active SCI or TS/SSBI clearance * Prior engineering team lead experience * Previous experience with space vehicle electrical power subsytems (including photovoltaic and battery engineering), electrical design integration, command & telemetry database, and/or cable & harness engineering.
