SAIC is seeking a seasoned senior space systems engineer and acquisition professional to provide systems engineering, acquisition strategy, and technical support to the Air Force Space and Missile Systems Center, Space Superiority Systems Directorate. SMC/SY equips U.S. forces with space control systems to gain, maintain, and exploit space superiority.

It directs the planning, development, testing, deployment, and sustainment of a complex and dynamic portfolio of space-superiority capabilities of the highest national priority. The position requires an individual with extensive experience in technical programs, technical program management, and systems engineering of large scale space and ground systems and/or new start technical demonstration space and ground systems, and manage program system safety needs. The successful candidate will have excellent communication and team skills.

In addition, the candidate will be expected to continually balance and adjust work priorities to meet short term work suspense and rapidly evolving customer needs. The position is based in El Segundo, CA. Qualified applicants must possess as active TS/SCI clearance and have a willingness to consent to a polygraph examination.

Key duties/responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Perform technical support and independent risk assessment and evaluation of program management execution, technical review execution (DoD 5000.02 framework), and systems engineering.

Assess program design and viability from a technical, perspective. Coordinate Government activities and contractor, sub-contractor, and vendor oversight efforts throughout the system life-cycle. Provide technical and acquisition support to Government and contractor milestone reviews to assess progress, issues, and requirements traceability.

Responsible for day-to-day management of various System and Space Safety Programs. Ensure program level documentation is aligned with Directorate and higher headquarters guidance for program planning and execution. Develops and evaluates program level documentation for SMC/SY assigned programs in support of Directorate leadership. Must be able to work independently.

Engages and coordinates with SMC Center Staff, HQ AFSPC, and HQ USAF on behalf of Directorate leadership to resolve documentation issues in line with Directorate commander's intent and priorities. Provides leadership advice on: acquisition strategies for next-generation systems; program execution issues and recommendations; strategic messaging to key operational and acquisition government, industry, and media stakeholders.

Working location: Position is co-located with Air Force Customer in El Segundo, CA


TYPICAL EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Bachelors and nine (9) years or more experience; Masters and seven (7) years or more experience ; PhD or JD and four (4) years or more experience.

12 years of technical program management, systems engineering, and acquisition within the areas of Space, Space Control, and Reconnaissance. Bachelor of Science in Engineering. in relevant discipline. Active Top Secret/SCI clearance.

Desired Qualifications:
Master's Degree in engineering or a related field, Certified Safety Professional or Professional Engineer, 4 or more years of System Safety Engineering PMP certification, INCOSE CSEP, SE Certificates.

Skills QualificationsRequired Experience, Skills and Attributes:• Master's Degree in Math, Science or Engineering with 15+ Years of demonstrated system engineering and integration experience with space, and/orground segments of DoD or NRO programs with a proven delivery record or a Bachelor's Degree in Math, Science or Engineering with 17+ Years ofdemonstrated experience.• Extremely motivated individual who is a self-starter and a team player, comfortable with matrixed organizations and leading through influence acrossmultiple organizations• At least 10 years of experience working with space vehicle bus subsystems and payload design and integration requirements.• Experience working across space and ground segment organizations to coordinate and identify system integration requirements that insure end-to-endmission performance requirements are met.• Demonstrated experience working with Air Force/DoD customers in an acquisition environment, with space and/or space and ground systems.• Experience providing technical analyses, architecture trade-studies, and program management support to a government customer.• Proactive engineer who takes the initiative to identify, own and solve customer problems.• Experience writing and delivering technical documents and briefings.Demonstrated interpersonal skills to enable working, interfacing, and interrelating with diverse personnel and dynamic teams.
