What your job will be like:

The SRF Production Engineer designs tooling for SRF Cryomodule production. Works with designers and technicians in developing the tooling and for the cryomodules. Will also serve as a technical representative to external vendors in acquiring the necessary material.

In this role you will:

  • Engineer and design tooling required for superconducting radio-frequency cryomodule production and ensure it is safe for use. Experience performing engineering analysis and calculations using analytic techniques and software such as ANSYS is required. Document designs using technotes and presentations.

  • Work with designers and technicians in developing tooling for superconducting radio-frequency cryomodule assembly 3D models, 2D drawings and assembly procedures. Help create and verify required documentation and specifications as needed.

  • Participate in all SRF cryomodule assembly processes and testing to verify clean room assembly. Work with engineers and technicians to ensure tooling and assemblies are correct, techniques are approved and technical issues are resolved quickly. Assist with installation of tooling as needed.

  • Assist in developing Electron-Ion Collider cryomodules production processes and plans.

  • Understand required JLab codes and standards, including: ASME piing, ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Codes and JLab Pressure and Vacuum System Rules and ensure that tooling and processes are in compliance.

  • Communicate tooling and production status to customers and line and project management. Develop technical status reports, present designs at technical reviews.

  • Serve as the responsible technical representative for the procurement of tooling. Interface with external vendors as necessary to ensure quality systems and components are fabricated, inspected and delivered.

  • Serve in rotation as RF Operator in the VTA.

  • Serve in rotation in the CMTF and CEBAF as RF Operator and as Cryo Operator.

  • Perform vibration and modal analysis on mechanical systems.

Qualifications We Require

Education

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering

Experience

  • 4 years of Relevant Experience

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • In-depth understanding of mechanical engineering principles and fundamentals,
  • Familiarity with metal fabrication technical requirements, equipment, methods and processes,
  • Familiarity with LabView and EPICS,
  • Knowledgeable in the use of CAD and multivariable analysis software in analyzing and producing solutions to mechanical problems,
  • Ability to assist plan, direct, and coordinate activities and resources in a manufacturing environment in accordance with cost, quality, and quantity specifications,
  • Able to work in collaboration with others to solve complex problems,
  • Able to take direction and work under supervision to carry out tasks and solve problems of limited complexity,
  • Able to communicate effectively the results and challenges of on-going projects to fellow staff and management in both oral and written form,
  • Ability to train, coach, and lead technical staff on task and projects with limited complexity

Qualifications We Prefer

  • Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
