We are looking for a senior writer to develop legal information content in the area of consumer core content. FindLaw owns and operates FindLaw.com, the number one destination for consumers with legal needs with more than six million visits each month and home to the largest online legal directory of lawyers.
As a trusted source, consumers turn to FindLaw.com to learn about a legal topic, solve a legal problem, or find a lawyer. It's your content that makes this happen.
Plan, develop, and create accessible, smart and useful legal information content across multiple practice areas, for a consumer audience, in collaboration with your editor. You will help consumers understand subjects like: common legal issues, situations, terminology, civil causes of action and bases of recovery; criminal charges, defenses, and sentencing; descriptions of what to expect while working within the legal system including general resolution timelines; explanations of landmark court decisions, including their applicability to everyday legal issues; and comprehensive informational content on statutes and regulations nationwide. Work with editor and colleagues to constantly refine and improve writing style and FindLaw content. We are never satisfied, and we hope you aren't either. Assist editor in content production and editing tasks as needed, including topic sourcing, copyediting, metrics analysis, and content maintenance. (10%)
Collaborate with Digital Content and Social Media Teams to optimize content using best practices in tagging, keyword usage, headline creation, content optimization and basic SEO. (5%) Help get our great content out to our users not just by search, but also by using our strong social networks.
Track content performance using multiple measures (e.g., traffic, syndication, conversion) and use performance measures to constantly refine writing style and improve content performance. (5%)
Excellent writing skills, with ability to write precisely and succinctly under tight deadlines, as well as the ability to write compelling, accurate legal information content for consumer audiences.
Intermediate understanding of HTML and SEO.
2+ years of professional writing or online media experience required. You need to know how to reach and engage an online audience.
Internet savvy with experience using social media tools such as blogs, social networks, microblogging, social bookmarking and/or social sharing. A good grasp on what makes content shareable across networks like Facebook, Twitter, Google+, LinkedIn (and many more!) is a plus.
Comfort with editor review of content and with constructive criticism.
JD, or ABA-approved paralegal certification and 5+ years of professional work experience
Current Bar membership and professional legal practice experience highly desired
