Summary

The Sr. Water Operations Technician performs a wide variety of skilled water operations, electrical and instrumentation maintenance and repairs as well as mechanical maintenance and repairs work on water facilities and systems. This role utilizes basic functions of Ignition, performs sampling and analyses of various water operations processes, and handles compliance monitoring and reporting to various agencies.

Responsibilities

  • Operate a variety of equipment, controls, instrumentation for water and water reclamation.

  • Install, calibrate, troubleshoot, and maintain all water and water reclamation equipment, including direct and remote instrumentation, hydraulic systems, pumps, fixtures and appliances by performing a variety of skilled electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic repair work.

  • Manage Distributed Control Systems, PLCs, Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition System, and Computer Based Monitoring and Controls System for Water Operations.

  • Check proper equipment operation; notify supervisors of alarms and equipment failure; requisition materials and supplies needed; write work orders for needed repairs.

  • Perform inventory for materials and chemicals and order supplies as required.

  • Be familiar with Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plans and associated requirements, regulations, etc. and perform required sampling, analyses, and reporting.

  • Perform corrective maintenance on facilities and equipment, including disassembly, rebuild, cleaning, and overhaul/replacement of valves, filters, pipe fittings, pumps, and other assorted equipment.

  • Perform preventative maintenance at all facilities; test for defects; remove, replace, and repair worn or deficient wiring outlets and fixtures.

  • Review blueprints and work with engineers and contractors on various facility upgrades; provide recommendations for changes or additions; design systems; plan electrical installations; build special electrical and electronic equipment.

  • Maintain records of logs and daily activities; instrument repair and parts inventory; orders of parts as necessary; key operational parameters; expenditures; analytical monitoring; reporting requirements, permitting; O&M Manuals; and SOPs and TOPs.

  • Operate and maintain a variety of vehicles, hand and power tools, and equipment.

  • Train employees in work methods, use of tools and equipment, and relevant safety precautions. Monitor and control quality of work of staff and consultants/contractors/vendors.

  • Responds to complaints and answers questions from public or escalates to supervisor, as necessary. This can include government entities from a variety of satellite facilities.

  • Administrative work including KPI, equipment log, and compliance updates along with equipment/parts ordering for multiple facilities.

  • Coordinates, communicates and interacts collaboratively with brewing and packaging teams to: 1) ensure brewing residuals, wastes, etc. are disposed of in a timely manner; 2) provide reliable brew water meeting water quality requirements; and 3) provide reliable reclaim water to ensure uninterrupted brewing and packaging operations.

  • Respond to maintenance and repair emergency situations as required.

  • Prepares reports as necessary.

  • Comply with all safety practices, policies and procedures. Observe safe work methods and makes appropriate use of related safety equipment as required. Perform safety and service inspections of assigned vehicles and equipment.

  • Steam cleans, washes, and fuels equipment; assists in lubrication and maintenance of equipment.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED

  • At least 5 years of related experience in a water/wastewater treatment field

  • Must have knowledge of all aspects of wastewater treatment process including theory of operation, safety, maintenance, record keeping, and permit and testing requirements.

  • Experience with plumbing installation, including copper welding, PVC welding, threaded pipe fitting skills, project implementation and construction will be essential.

  • Must be a self-motivated starter with ability to work independently.

  • Must have experience and competency using basic hand and power tools and able to accurately measure and mark material for cutting or fitting.

  • Understanding of basic electrical systems will be required as well as forklift, reach lift and scissor lift operation.

  • Knowledge of chemical handling and proper use of PPE will be required.

  • Welding skills are desired. Carpentry skills are essential.

  • Completion of Wastewater courses preferred. Possession of a Grade I or Grade II Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator certificate from the California State Water Resources Control Board is highly desired.

  • Proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite of programs.

  • Must be able to effectively communicate in English, both verbally and written.

  • Travel Requirements: occasional travel to other Sapporo-Stone locations is required.

Compensation, Benefits & Perks

  • Pay Range: $30.00/hr. - $35.00/hr.
