Position Information

WakeMed Health & Hospitals, a 941-bed health system located in Raleigh, North Carolina, is searching for a nationally recognized quality executive to lead our journey to become one of the top 10 health care organizations in the country in terms of patient and family experience, quality, safety and value. The primary responsibilities of the Senior Vice President, Chief Quality & Medical Staff Officer, include prioritizing and standardizing quality initiatives related to patient care; ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and oversight of accreditation functions; analysis, design, and utilization of performance metrics leading to improved outcomes; system-wide performance improvement initiatives; reporting and analysis of quality outcome and comparison data; and improving the value of services provided by the largest health care provider in Wake County.

Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer for the health system, this senior member of our executive team provides oversight for Medical Staff Services, Clinical Quality, Patient Safety, Risk Management, Infection Prevention, Accreditation Services, and Kaizen Promotion (performance improvement) in both ambulatory and inpatient settings. Working in collaboration with the Board of Directors, executive leaders, physicians and clinical and support staff, this leader empowers and engages all stakeholders to promote and support an inclusive culture focused on quality and safety. The senior VP champions safety, education and transparency initiatives that support our quality-related strategic goals and oversees the system-wide performance improvement program with a focus on identifying opportunities to improve outcomes, implement best practices, improve value and achieve outstanding quality.

As the Chief Medical Staff Officer for the health system, the Senior VP works with executive team members, hospital-based Chief Medical Officers, medical staff members, and the Board of Directors to improve the efficacy of our 1,200-member medical staffs. The Senior VP acts as a liaison between medical staff and health system leadership to help maintain strong, mutually-beneficial relationships between organization leadership and community and/or employed physicians, with the ultimate goal of improving care and services provided to our patients.

The Senior VP holds leadership roles on numerous system-wide committees, regularly engaging our Board of Directors and medical staff leaders. By partnering and collaborating with medical staffs and hospital leadership, the Senior VP for Quality facilitates teamwork among clinical and support staff across a growing, dynamic health care organization, promoting the achievement of shared goals that support the organization's strategic goals.

Primary Responsibilities: * Own software engineering, reliability engineering, system/solution/application architecture, dev/ops, end to end technology service and best practice adoption for Optum Care Services * Provide leadership for a 50 person development and support team with a focus on talent management and employee engagement * Partner with all parts of Business Enablement and Technology to develop, deliver and support high quality application while maturing Agile best practices * Leverage metrics and best practices to drive continuous improvement and transformation within teams * Create and manage to a financial plan with large budgets * Participate in creating technology roadmaps and architecture guidelines * Incorporate and leverage existing solutions * Incorporate UHG technology standards and capabilities into Medical Benefit Management * Own and encompass pillars pertaining to: Quality Engineer and cutting edge technology, IT People Managements and development and Strategy and Scalability * Ability to lead high growth, cutting edge system process and new technology when delivery vision and products Required Qualifications: * Bachelor's degree * 15 years overall technology leadership experience and progressive leadership and Dev Ops or Architecture Solutions management ability * 15 years or more with niche focus in: IT Quality Engineering and Architecture/Development experience to bring true depth and technical expertise and scale * Experience leading both emerging and mature Agile Development Teams * Demonstrated success in managing teams diverse teams with both recent college grads and experienced professionals * Demonstrated ability to engage with C-level stakeholders and external clients * Ability to establish effective working relationships with executives and key business partners to drive change agenda * Experience leading global teams - OGS India * Experience managing remote and virtual development teams of 45-75 IT resources * Experience managing capital budget of $20-25MM (or more) for 2019 IT deliverables * Experience with scalable technology solutions that adjust to cyclical business patterns * Travel is expected in US and Global in the range of 40-50% of the time as business needs dictate * Location based in Optum offices in Raleigh, NC Preferred Qualifications: * MBA or Master's degree * Knowledge of the Healthcare, Insurance or Financial Services industry * Demonstrated strategic thinking abilities and an enterprise-wide perspective * High level of emotional intelligence (EQ) * Outstanding collaboration and partnerships * Strong expertise around influencing, problem solving and negotiation skills * Track record of delivering results and value * Broad technology experience, including complex systems integration and infrastructure expertise * Experience working in a very large, matrix environment across global time zones Technology Careers with Optum.
