Job Description

Primary Function of Position:

Intuitive Surgical, Inc. produces the da Vinci Surgical System, a minimally invasive robotic surgery system that uses complex mechanics, replaceable instruments and accessories, and enhanced three-dimensional visualization to extend surgical technique and precision beyond the limits of the human hand.

This is a unique role that requires multiple areas of engineering prototype development. The R&D Engineering Technician will support development of new endoscope designs throughout the qualification phase. This is an opportunity to use design, prototyping, test, analysis, assembly, and data mining skills in new product as well as product in the íeld. The successful candidate will have the capability to work with engineers to resolve complex design and manufacturing issues, as well as the ability to work in an interdisciplinary team to troubleshoot higher level system issues. A strong sense of shared responsibility and shared reward is required as well as a commitment to high product quality.

Roles and Responsibilities:

• A typical work week may include design support, hands-on assembly, soldering, operating test machines, and working in a machine shop.

• Work in cross-functional R&D teams to support the development of new endoscopes and illumination products as well as improvements to existing designs.

• Work with design engineers to assemble, modify, and test designs.

• Work with manufacturing teams building new product introductions.

• Work with test engineers testing new product introductions.

Qualifications

Skill/Job Requirements:

• Minimum Technical Associates Degree preferred or High School Diploma

• Minimum 5+ years experience in a related field.

• Experience with soldering.

• Experience in building small assemblies.

• Experience with fabrication and modification of components.

• Experience with electronics, reading schematics, modifying circuits.

• Experience in the medical industry is a strong plus.

• Experience with computers, MS Office applications and running engineering test scripts.

• Experience using SolidWorks is a plus, reading drawings and making modifications.

• Comfortable with setting up experiments, following test protocols, and creating reports, selecting, and using measurement and test equipment.

• Proven experience in a fast-paced, detail driven environment.

• A real excitement to learn and get to the bottom of tough technical problems.

• A passion for creating robust and reliable products.

• A careful, patient, approach to assembling, modifying, and analyzing delicate prototypes.
