The Virtualization Engineer role is to design, execute, assess, and troubleshoot the client-side XenDesktop and XenApp environment. This includes architecting, configuring, scripting, and documenting Citrix-based solutions and other hosted desktop environments throughout the project life cycle.
The Virtualization Engineer will also oversee systems startup and recover in a timely and accurate fashion, and provide support to external clients where required.Responsibilities:
Citrix Engineering Operational Activities 75%
Collaborate with clients on the development and implementation of new XenApp and XenDesktop environments
Provide senior level Windows engineering and support
Citrix environment administration, Storefront, and application delivery.
Configure, manage, and maintain XenApp infrastructure
Configure, manage, and maintain XenDesktop infrastructure
Responsible for Citrix patching and maintenance
Provide daily, weekly, and monthly usage reporting on system capacity and availability
Responsible for maintenance and updates to the Citrix NetScalers
Responsible for operations of a Citrix XenDesktop VDI environment including end-user support and issue resolution
Recommend, schedule, and perform improvements and upgrades to optimize performance of Citrix environment
Systems Engineering Operational Activities 25%
Monitor health of virtual guests.
Manage replications and VM movements between datacenters
Coordinate with other IT functional teams to deliver consistent, customer-focused support and service
Manage, administer, and maintain Microsoft SQL clusters
Manage ticket assignment queues, utilizing ITIL best practices for service delivery
Other duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs):
In-depth knowledge and experience implementing and supporting XenDesktop and XenApp architectures to meet client and regulatory requirements.
In-depth experience in VMware virtual environments.
In-depth knowledge of Windows operating systems, SQL server, and enterprise storage
Expert-level knowledge of Citrix XenDesktop 7.5 and XenApp 6.5+ environments
Technically fluent in scripting languages with emphasis on PowerShell and VBScript
Proven analytical and problem-solving abilities; as well as the ability to learn, understand, and apply new technologies
Solid working knowledge of current storage technologies (iSCSI, NAS and SAN)
The ability to lift up to 75 pounds
This position requires on-call availability and off-hours work for deployments and implementations
Periodic travel to client site is required.
Education and Experience:
Bachelors degree or equivalent education and experience required, and
5 or more years of Citrix engineering experience required
Citrix CCE-V Certification preferred; CCP-V required
Understanding of Enterprise Data Center Design, Infrastructure, and technologies required
Management and Administration in Citrix products that include but limited to: XenApp 6.5 and XenDesktop 7.5
Deployment of streamed applications using either XenApp or Citrix Streaming; MSI repackaging experience a plus
Experience with Microsoft technologies such as Active Directory and Windows Server as well as Group Policy Objects
