Seeking a local Sr. UX Design Researcher who can both inspire and influence innovative, practical, and relevant experiences in designing interfaces for an investment banking client. The client begun a complete overhaul of their digital banking web/mobile platform geared toward start-ups and emerging tech companies. The contract Sr. UX Design Researcher will help maintain a continuous feedback loop with their clients via the most effective research tool/methodology. Successful contractor must be able to create high standards for the visual expression of their work product; simple, intuitive interaction design, a lexicon that helps their clients understand complex banking concepts without all the bank speak.

The Sr. UX Design Researcher will be a core part of the design team partnering closely with product management to run design feedback sessions and usability studies, gather feedback from our client community and the broader community, with a focus on the end-to-end customer journey.

Key activities include:

  • Collaborating with cross-functional teams to design user studies, both formal and guerrilla

  • Document trends in the research for design, product, dev, and other stakeholders.

  • Create regular research readouts or presentations to communicate our research trends to internal stakeholders and collaborators

  • Contribute to prototype creation or concept exploration

  • Write discussion guides, moderator scripts, surveys and any other research artifacts as needed

  • Perform heuristic evaluations and competitive research

  • Facilitate co-design sessions and other style brainstorms

  • Be able to manage and mentor other researchers

  • Taking design findings to evolve designs, create Invision prototypes, create supporting design deliverables to help fuel brainstorm or design reviews

Requirements

  • Familiarity with a variety of research methodologies and ability to apply the most appropriate one for the project's needs

  • Stellar presentation and communication skills to lead client sessions as well as share out research and analysis clearly and effectively across the organization

  • Extreme attention to detail, willingness to do "detective work" as needed

  • Solid understanding of interaction design patterns related to web and mobile design

  • Strong sense for user-centered design principles, careful attention to detail, and ability to see the bigger picture

  • Experience in collaborating with teams to understand and execute research goals

  • Experience using both quantitative and qualitative data to inform design decisions

  • Possess a strong eye for intuitive experiences

  • Experience translating research findings into design at varying levels of fidelity

Qualifications:

  • Must have 5-7 years' experience as a design researcher for web and software projects with some experience with UX Design responsibilities

  • Deep proficiency in Invision or other prototyping tools used to fuel the process of making smart research happen

  • Solid Proficiency with PowerPoint

  • Light proficiency in some design tools such as Sketch or Photoshop

  • Experience and/or familiarity with current web/mobile technologies

  • Ability to prioritize and manage work in a fast- paced fluid environment

  • Experience with both consumer and business facing experiences a plus

  • Background in finance a plus

  • Degree in a design or research-related field, such as Human-Computer Interaction, Psychology, Web Design or other concentration preferred

  • Must have case studies to share that demonstrate experience with research (usability, surveys, other methodologies) for complex application experiences across mobile, desktop, and web

About the role: Cruise is looking for a Senior UX Researcher to lead research efforts within our Product teams. The UX Research team focuses on experiences that serve Cruise's target customer as well as internal teams at Cruise. We work closely with designers and other cross-functional teams to provide insights that will lay the foundation for an AV ride-sharing experience. As a part of this team, you will have a critical role in shaping the Cruise experience and the impact it will have on the transportation and automotive industries that have shaped our way of living. Day-to-day responsibilities include: * Collaborate closely with other researchers, designers, product managers, and engineers to identify and prioritize opportunities where research can help improve a product decision or customer experience * Demonstrate a strong understanding of strengths and weakness of different research methods, including when and how to apply them during each product phase * Lead all aspects of a research project including: meet with stakeholders, scope projects, choose methodologies, create research plans, write discussion guides, lead interview sessions, synthesize findings into meaningful themes, and write actionable and impactful reports * Communicate research findings to inform business decisions through rich storytelling via presentations, reports, workshops and any other novel, creative approach You may be a good fit if you have the following qualifications: * B.A./B.S. in Human Factors, HCI, Psychology, Computer Science, or Social Sciences, Anthropology, or equivalent * 5+ years experience conducting research related to highly interactive software, web applications and web information architecture * Track record of using foundational, formative, and evaluative research methods such as: usability studies (remote/in lab), card sorting, user task analysis, log analysis, interviews, ethnographic-style fieldwork, surveys, moderating group conversations, testing of early designs and prototypes, basic quantitative analyses, A/B testing * Experience designing multi-method studies * Ability to work independently with little direct supervision and take initiative to solve problems * Experience leading research projects that have had lasting impact on product and design decisions.
