In this position you will be responsible for all policy transaction processing and technical support functions for the Diamond State Group underwriting unit.

Position & Responsibilities:

  • Triage incoming new business submissions to eliminate non-qualifying submissions.

  • Conduct clearance process on new business submissions (indexing)

  • Place orders for inspection reports as assigned by underwriter.

  • Review inspection reports for discrepancies/material changes from application and policy.

  • Develop recommendation letters and monitor policies for recommendation compliance.

  • Rate and price money endorsements and cancellations in accordance with policy conditions.

  • Ensure cancellations are processed in accordance with state requirements and policy conditions.

  • Contact producers to gather additional account information.

  • Evaluate and prepare renewals including rating risks and provide the underwriter with all of the underwriting data required to evaluate the risk.

  • Act as liaison between various departments and Underwriting to ensure policies are issued correctly and premiums are booked and billed properly.

  • Attend industry specific seminars and courses; participate in continuing education where required; and participate in wholesaler seminars conducted by the company.

  • Complete the Account checklist and notify underwriter as necessary of discrepancies

  • Issue Binders as requested by underwriter

  • Follow up on request made to agents like signed applications

  • Make sure wind premiums are properly booked

Requirements & Qualifications:

  • A minimum 2 years of experience as an Underwriting Assistant or equivalent experience

  • Strong organizational skills.

  • Insurance related coursework beneficial.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Ability to work in a Windows based environment with working knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel and the internet.

  • Ability to intelligently and professionally communicate with producers through telephone conversations and electronic correspondence.

  • Portray a professional image and the ability to work independently.

  • Ability to meet deadlines and work accurately with detailed information.

  • Ability to work both individually and in a team setting.

  • Ability to train a new underwriting assistant

Responsibilities: * Process Surety business through data input supporting one or more product lines within a defined territory applying knowledge and understanding of rating scenarios, and producing error free work through strong attention-to-detail. This includes but is not limited to: prepare and execute new bonds, riders, enter rates and code new business, renewals, cancellations, endorsements, and reinstatements. * Provide underwriting support to Surety Underwriting team (Underwriters, Bond Managers, etc) and legendary service to internal and external customers, including agents and clients within a defined territory. Assists with customer inquiries and questions, as well as the input of new bond transactions. * Retrieve information using various systems and updates agency information as appropriate, including billing, work flow and contractor's database systems. Prepare and verify documents for accuracy prior to entering into systems. * Assist Accounting team with billing, premium and commission discrepancies upon request. * Uses excellent verbal and written communication skills to engage with Home Office and field teams, Customer Accounting, Surety IT, Surety Claims, attorneys, and additional internal and external customers. * Review and reconciles internal system reports as directed by Manager. * Apply independent judgment to complete complex or specialized assignments/tasks working within defined policies and procedures to optimize planned business results. * Apply technical knowledge of Surety Operations Processing policies and procedures acquired through experience in job area or through technical training. Identifies opportunity for process improvement and shares with manager and peers. * Performs technical support within the office and assists in the resolution of problems in coordination with Surety's IT Department and Application Specialists. * Process, coordinate and/or validate data and documents to ensure quality and customer satisfaction. * Provide administrative and general office/clerical support as needed. * May participate on key special projects as requested, and perform additional assignments as instructed by manager. Qualifications: * High School Diploma or equivalent required. * A minimum of 1 year with a preference of 3 + years surety bond underwriting assistant experience or related experience desired, with an emphasis in supporting complex transaction workflow. * Prior Surety Underwriting Support experience with an understanding of surety rating and processing functions preferred. * Prior experience working in Surety applications is strongly preferred and desired. * Learns quickly and demonstrates an open attitude when facing new problems, processes, or procedures.
