Sr. Underwriter/Avp, Excess Casualty Underwriting

Job Summary:

Will be responsible for managing and growing a portfolio and book of business for company's General Casualty business by exercising proper underwriting discipline, and by marketing and servicing both existing and potential retail clients, focusing on retail distribution with a targeted approach on construction, real estate, and products liability risks.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

• Perform account analysis according to internal and organizational casualty guidelines and develop account pricing and structure as well as make recommendations accordingly.

• Perform and document referrals and prepare quotes, binders, and underwriting worksheets within company's operational guidelines and industry approaches.

• Delegate and supervise work of Account Coordinators and perform marketing initiatives to retailers within assigned regions, including engaging and helping to lead production meetings.

• Work with Legal department for manuscript wording analysis and preparation using knowledge of specialized and advanced exposure languages and manuscript policy wordings.

• Confer and liaise with senior management on referral items and training, supporting and working with Underwriting Trainees and Junior Underwriters as necessary.

• Write Lloyd's of London business domestically for products sold in London, Ireland, and throughout Europe using experience and knowledge in dealing with the London insurance market, in particular, with Lloyd's of London.

• Oversee the underwriting of accounts using pricing and policy terms and conditions for excess casualty, including overseeing the performance of manual and loss ratings on all underwriting submissions.

• Coordinate and communicate with brokers regarding new product lines and renewals.

• Coordinate with internal Actuarial Department to price specific accounts that include self-insured or captive retentions and perform portfolio analysis and risk management modeling using insurance-related databases and Information Technology.

• Confer and liaise with the Claims Department on specific claim activity and overall market claim concerns that could potentially affect profitability and work with Internal Audit Department to ensure compliance with all underwriting and administrative guidelines plus adherence to all Casualty insurance protocols.

• Bachelor's degree

• A minimum of 5 years of Underwriting experience with experience as a Casualty Underwriter preferred
