Sr. Underwriter, Contract Binding (Hybrid -Alpharetta Or Tampa)

The position encompasses Binding P&C underwriting for the Markel Specialty Southeast Region located in Alpharetta, GA or Tampa, FL. The focus of the position includes reviewing, analyzing, accepting, and declining risks to ensure profitability for Markel. The incumbent will communicate with underwriting management and national product line leaders on individual accounts, current and proposed producers, and make recommendations concerning operations, systems and procedures when appropriate. They will also monitor producers for profitability and production while developing and maintaining productive relationships with said producers. The Senior Underwriter will review exposures, terms, conditions and pricing while underwriting new and renewal business and handle related servicing. They will also implement corrective measures on renewal accounts as needed and monitor producers for profitability and production. In addition, they will market products to producers by coordinating marketing plan with regional and national marketing associates as well as participate in audits and/or underwriting meetings as required.

What you'll be doing:

• Profitably underwrite existing complex wholesale Binding business and new business to include reviewing, analyzing, accepting, and declining risks;

• Proactively communicate with regional managers and national Binding product line leaders on individual accounts, current and proposed producers;

• Inform business decisions by making recommendations concerning operations, systems and procedures;

• Review submissions and identify exposure and risk from information provided;

• Review terms, conditions and pricing;

• Implement corrective measures on renewal accounts as needed;

• Provide training or technical assistance to department underwriting staff;

• Monitor producers for profitability and production.

What we're looking for:

• Four-year college degree preferred;

• 3-6 years of experience in profitable P&C underwriting;

• Demonstrated technical knowledge and skills reflective of progression of positions of increasing responsibility;

• Experience in the wholesale channel with established producer relationships;

• Demonstrated marketing and relationship building skills;

• Excellent oral and written communication skills;

• Strong analytical and organizational skills;

• Team player that enjoys a flexible and spontaneous business environment;

• Up to 25% travel in the Southeast US.
