What we are looking for:

Yazaki is looking for Test Center Machinist to join our Testing/Engineering team in Canton, Michigan. The ideal candidate will enjoy working in a collaborative and action-driven environment making lasting impacts on the organization.

The Testing Machinist creates component fixtures and Prototype Fabrication projects on the HAAS CNC Mill VF-3SSYT / VF-3YT / OneCNC - CAD/CAM XR8 (programming/Probing). Receives and gathers information with other customer provided information to create a design (CAD model, drawing and associated documents). Reads drawings & communicate effectively with others. Works independently as well as with a team and obtain design information from multiple supporting functional groups. Engineer needs to be willing to learn and train others to advance in their level of knowledge. Estimates the labor, material and cost for fixtures as well as being familiar with machining processes and materials. Reviews specifications/procedures and their interpretation with engineer, supervisor, Project Lead and/or customer to ensure the correct fixture implementation. Develops and maintains a fixture inventory system. Evaluates fixtures created by others and communicate effectively with others. Addresses issues in an effective, expedited manner.

What you will be doing:

  • Review component specification requirements.

  • Evaluate information provided by the customer for completeness and accuracy

  • Interpret information provided by the customer as applied to the product/project

  • Fabricate component fixtures and Prototype projects to component specifications and requirements utilizing the Haas Mill VF-3SSYT / VF-3YT / OneCNC - CAD/CAM XR8 (programming/Probing)

  • Verify (test) and validate (customer use) designs and properly communicate findings

  • Review, interpret, check, and be responsible for the CAD model, drawings and associated documents.

  • Keep records of all design related information

  • Provide forecast for the delivery of the designs to the proper level, which meet the project timing requirements.

  • Suggest and implement solutions to problems encountered with different components regarding fixture fabrication.

  • Write and track equipment and material purchase orders

  • Investigate new equipment

  • Assist in Quality audits and maintenance throughout the group.

  • Conduct maintenance within the Fabrication Laboratory.

  • Train Associates on Haas CNC Mill VF-3SSYT / VF-3YT / MasterCAM, OneCNC - CAD/CAM XR8 (programming/Probing)

  • Participate in implementing QS9000, ISO 17025, T/S 16949 and 14001.

  • Must have excellent communication skills and be a Team Player

  • Work with Designer and Customer to create prints

  • Work directly with outsource labs

  • Develop and maintain an inventory for fixtures

  • Elevate issues to upper management when required.

  • Participate in meetings to discuss details regarding fixture fabrication.

What you will bring to the table:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or related Technical field, or 10-15 years of machinist experience

  • Haas CNC Mill VF-3SSYT / VF-3YT / MasterCAM, OneCNC - CAD/CAM XR8 Programming & Probing experience required

  • Functional Competencies: Design for Assembly/Manufacturing, Tolerance Stack-up comprehension, Tooling & Fixture Building, FEA process and results analysis, 3D Conceptual Skills, 3D CAD software usage capability (MasterCAM, OneCNC - CAD/CAM XR8, Catia v5, AutoCAD), 2D Drawing Generation, Standards, Checking & comprehension
