Microchip is seeking a Senior Staff Applications Engineer to join the Discrete and Power Management (DPM) Business Unit (BU). This position will work with our field applications and sales engineers in addition to our factory BU applications and marketing teams to develop SiC system solution strategy and roadmap and participate and drive the execution of that strategy. This position will also generate product and system level collateral (application notes, presentations, etc.), conduct field and customer visits and participate in field and distribution training. This position will also interact with the global product development teams to help ensure that end customer requirements are considered when defining and developing new products.
Support the field sales and applications teams to drive design wins with our customers
Maintain and adjust system solution strategy and roadmap
Design, debug and release SiC system level reference designs
Create system simulation models supporting the reference designs
Create evaluation boards and application notes
Generate training materials
Travel to regional offices to provide in-depth technical training
Provide feedback to the new product development teams about the customer needs/requirements
Collaborate with other Microchip business units, marketing, applications, and field teams to create Total System Solutions for our customers
Conduct customer visits with the field team
Bachelor's (Masters or PhD preferred) in Electrical Engineering
Experience with Wide Band-gap technologies, specifically SiC
At least 15 years of experience as an Applications or Field Applications Engineer or related
Experience developing and analyzing analog and digitally controlled switching power topologies
Significant experience with high-voltage and high-power conversion
Experience with PCB design tools.
Experience using circuit and system level simulation tools including SPICE, Matlab and PLECS
Excellent knowledge of laboratory equipment and analysis of the test results
Excellent communication and presentation skills with global teams
Available for traveling
Excellent written and verbal English communication skills
Experience with automotive and industrial applications
Knowledge of Aerospace and Defense market and applications
Experience with customer support
Experience with EMI/EMC testing and mitigation techniques
Hands-on experience with embedded systems
Familiarity with C/C++ or other software/firmware development
Experience with Altium Designer
