Position Summary and Responsibilities

Teledyne Brown Engineering is actively seeking an experienced Systems Engineer and Subject Matter Expert (SME) to support the Missile Defense Agency (MDA) Ballistic Missile Defense System (BMDS) Objective Simulation Framework (OSF). The OSF is the primary simulation framework utilized by MDA for simulated ground testing.

The Systems Engineer / SME will be responsible for systems engineering tasks in support of the OSF as well as engaging in internal research and development (IRAD) programs and new business development.

Responsibilities will include but not be limited to:

  • Overseeing IRAD efforts including the definition of requirements, scheduling of activities, progress tracking, and reporting to top level management

  • Identifying new business opportunities in the area of Missile Defense

  • Participating in the development of proposals for new business opportunities as well as follow-on contracts.

  • Developing capabilities briefs and sales pitches for potential future customers

  • Leading and actively participating in Technical Interchange Meetings (TIMs) with the OSF customer and partners

  • Coordinating with Simulation Software Developers to create and maintain evolving simulation software architecture models and associated documentation

  • Simulation Software Concept Definition BMDS Scenarios within the OSF

  • Simulation Software Architecture Evolution

  • Modeling and Simulation of advanced concepts

  • Requirements, Test, and Evaluation of prototype simulation software

  • Authoring White Papers to document new concepts and efforts

Qualifications

Education:

Requires a BS degree in a recognized field of engineering, plus approximately 18 years experience in applicable field.

The Systems Engineers desired are subject matter experts in fields relating to the threats, elements, sciences, and fields within the BMDS.

These include, but are not limited to:

  • Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD)

  • AN / TPY-2 Radar

  • Patriot

  • Aegis Weapons Systems radars and missiles

  • BMDS Sensors (SBX, CD, UEWR)

  • EO / IR / RF Signatures

  • Electronic Warfare

Strongly Preferred:

  • Engineering with 20+ years of experience working with BMDS elements and programs and/or within the field of radar and electro-optical sciences

  • Demonstrated experience as a Systems Engineer throughout the lifecycle of a system from concept definition through design, test, and execution

  • Simulation software systems engineering experience is desired

  • Demonstrated experience with Model-based Systems Engineering concepts

Role description & Responsibilities: The Sr. Principal Systems Engineer is responsible for working with a small team of test and systems engineers to support integration and testing of the SLS Booster program avionics subsystem both at Marshall Spaceflight Center (MSFC) in Huntsville, AL and at Kennedy Space Center (KSC) in Cape Canaveral FL. Will including planning, design, and execution of tests to verify avionics performance requirements. Methodical troubleshooting and root cause of test anomalies may be required. Will be responsible for post test data review, analyses, report, and compliance generation. Will utilize common lab equipment, data acquisition, and processing software such as Oscilloscopes, DMMs, LabVIEW, and Matlab. Roles and responsibilities include: * Maintain primary interface to the SLS Electrical and Controls Chief Engineer and NASA customer * Regular coordination with Program Management for budget/schedule and Design Engineering * Work closely with Quality Engineering to disposition MRB * Generate and execute detailed planning for avionics test and checkout * Analyze test results and generate associated reports and compliance data * Support planning and execution of overall Integration, Test and Checkout for downstream activities Experience Requirements: * Minimum of 10 years of experience related to Electrical/Avionics, analysis, and testing * Knowledge, use and application of engineering and processing documentation (i.e., drawings, specifications, table tops, parts lists, change requests, change notices, planning, MRB) * Excellent presentation skills * Excellent communication skills * Demonstrated knowledge and skill in using Microsoft Office Applications * Proficient writing skills (grammar/punctuation/spelling) * Experience with Configuration Management * Ability to travel: Travel expectation of 15% - 25% Skills & Qualifications: * Ability to work independently and make logical decisions * Excellent organizational and time management skills with ability to prioritize work and schedule * Excellent written and oral communication skills * Ability to coordinate and work well with management, coworkers, and internal customers * Strong problem solving skills * Attention to detail but able to understand big picture * Willingness to accept challenging work with positive attitude * Flexibility to accept, learn and perform new job functions * Committed to continuous improvement Basic Qualifications: * Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Engineering (aerospace, chemical, electrical, mechanical, material sciences engineering, or physics) required with 10 years of experience, MS with 7 years of experience, or PhD with 5 years of experience.
