Sr. Systems Engineer

Serves as a technical, system integration and IT architecture subject matter expert and works with operations team, IT Architects, Systems Analysts and within the IT infrastructure technical team to design and build IT systems and platforms that exceed functional expectations consistent with the values of the State of Indiana. Runs complex technical projects and ensures long-term requirements of systems management and planning. Help Identify, mitigate, and manages patches and vulnerabilities that pose a risk to sensitive information; Ensures that the State of Indiana's Information Security Framework and NIST Cyber Security Frameworks are enforced.

A day in the life:

  • Planning, implementation and maintenance of IT infrastructure solutions and platforms that perform to defined functional and operational expectations.

  • Delivers high-quality IT architectural systems and infrastructure designs with an eye for building the designed systems accounting for existing technical debt, any development bottlenecks and architecture initiatives to drive service delivery, optimize cost and support established goals.

  • Establishes and maintains technical security architecture, availability, and overall performance and maintenance activities.

  • Communicates and accurately documents all architectural decisions, plans, goals and functional requirements.

  • Serves as the technical lead for service delivery of the scope of the built system by designing, reviewing and implementation of end-to-end integrated systems, and enterprise data

  • Identifies and proposes new standards (products, master solutions and services).

  • Recommends and facilitates quality improvement efforts. Stays up to date on future innovations, technical trends and applies this to direct future changes. Has knowledge of the solutions available as well as best practices for processes.

  • Runs complex projects ensuring they are completed on time and within budget with only general direction from management.

What we're looking for:

  • Bachelor of Science in Computer Technology or 6 years' experience in a systems administrator role.

  • Must possess a thorough knowledge of information technology systems including software, hardware, and their impact on the various components and their capabilities.

  • Must have the soft skills necessary to establish and maintain a cooperative working relationship with others;

  • Must be able to work with other information technology support staff to develop capacity planning. Must have hands-on experience in the installation, maintenance, configuration of system software and system operating systems; including, but not limited to, the use of tools, techniques and utilities to accurately monitor and tune the systems.

  • It is essential this individual have hands-on experience in the supporting Microsoft Active Directory, Windows Server 2012/2016, DNS, DHCP, SCCM and Application support.

  • This individual must provide technical leadership to other team members.

  • Have excellent knowledge of system design and software development best practices;

  • A wide range of experience controlling and improving quality of service while reducing the overall cost of development through operational efficiencies.

Senior System Administrator This System Administrator Senior position will be a member of the Messaging and Collaboration team and requires technical expertise in messaging technologies (Exchange, mail encryption, anti-spam) and Active Directory at the Indiana Office of Technology. This position assist with planning and execution of projects that facilitate future growth and integrating new technologies such as Office 365 services at the State of Indiana. As a System Administrator Senior they are responsible for ensuring the overall health and performance of supported technologies as well as overseeing multiple projects, working on tickets and troubleshooting critical issues. A day in the life: * The Exchange and Active Directory team supports a myriad of technologies that relate to Active Directory and Messaging services and in particular Office 365. * Mail services include Exchange in a cloud hybrid setup, mail encryption, anti-spam appliance, listservs, etc. * Active Directory services include core infrastructure services such as directory services, DNS, WINS, DHCP, but also includes technologies such as AD Connect, ADFS, identity management services and Azure authentication. * This individual ideally would have a strong background in scripting and automation using Powershell or related scripting languages. * This individual will need to have technical experience dealing with installation/configuration, operation, and maintenance of systems hardware and software and related infrastructure. * Participates in technical research and development to enable continuing innovation within the system infrastructure. * Ensures that system hardware, operating systems, software systems, and related procedures adhere to organizational values, standards and procedures. * All system related duties and responsibilities will apply which includes testing, debugging and documentation of system software upgrades and new releases. * Additional responsibilities may include automation, scripting, design and implementation planning which rely on networking, security, OS, storage, Exchange and Active Directory knowledge. * Assist and at times lead projects while adhering to the principles of our standard Project Management Methodology. These activities include the definition of needs, benefits, and technical strategy; research & development within the project life-cycle; technical analysis and design; and support of operations staff in executing, testing and rolling-out the solutions. * Performs all related duties as required.
