MTSI is seeking a motivated, innovative, and inquisitive systems engineer to support the evolution, development, integration, and testing of Command and Control Battle Management and Communication (C2BMC) training systems for the Missile Defense Agency (MDA).

Work as a key member of an Integrated Product Team (IPT) supporting the development of the MDA's Distributed Training System (DTS). The engineer will coordinate with multiple government leads and other contractors within the MDA and multiple external members of the Missile Defense National Team.

Ability to provide system level engineering support for complex training systems, individual system elements, interfaces, components, devices, and/or processes. Capable of performing as a sociable member of a team, assisting government leads with solving complex problems, and the ability to provide forward thinking direction and expertise in the evolution of systems. Self-starter with enthusiasm and experience with assessments of training and exercise requirements, analysis and understanding of the ballistic missile defense system, and understanding of current and future ballistic missile threats.

  • Provide overall support for DTS development for the C2BMC program to include the engineering life cycle of the product.

  • Reduce risk to the government and program (cost, time, and performance).

  • Provide government lead researched options to continually improve and evolve the C2BMC training system, architecture, and overall training approach.

  • Support in development and assessment of requirements for the C2BMC DTS.

  • Organize and lead meetings to determine status of systems, upgrades, schedules, and development progress.

  • Represent the interests of the customer in working group forums and in Technical Interchange Meetings.

  • Prepare for and participate in various engineering and software review boards.

  • Prepare documents such as plans, analyses, assessments, schedules, papers, metrics, guides, minutes, synopsis, reports, and briefings.

  • Research, develop, and brief technical analysis, plans, and feasibility for DTS upgrades. Provide Course of Actions with analysis, comparison, and recommendations to government leadership.

  • Review and provide comments on technical documents in support of major system reviews to ensure quality and reduce risk to the program.

  • Provide independent and objective evaluations of other contractor performed analyses and proposals.

  • Communicate and defend plan methodologies, tools, and results of analyses to leadership.


  • 3+ years of related experience.

  • Demonstrable experience with computer systems and network architecture.

  • Experience with the Department of Defense (DoD) Risk Management Framework (RMF).

  • Ability to provide engineering support on complex systems throughout the system engineering life cycle.

  • Ability to solve complex problems individually or as a member of a team.

  • Capable of performing as a member of multiple teams.

  • Self-starter with enthusiasm and capacity to learn.

  • Ability to interact and communicate in a professional manner with senior military and government leadership.

  • Understanding of US Government contracts and processes.

  • Proficient in MS Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

  • Knowledge of the DoD Programs and Acquisition process.

Desired Experience:

  • DAU Acquisition Level 1

  • Recent experience in modeling and simulation a plus

  • Knowledge of emerging network technologies including: software-defined networking, cloud computing, virtual machines, and virtualization technology.

  • Working knowledge of the Agile software development process

  • Understanding of distributed training and exercise environments.

  • Experience with the Missile Defense Agency, the BMDS, or other DoD agencies

This position provides engineering technical expertise covering a wide range of activities in support of development, launch, recovery, and refurbishment. Expertise in a specific engineering discipline plus a background in systems engineering and space flight hardware test and certification is desired. Job Description: Provide engineering technical management and system engineering integration support for a space flight project. Responsibilities include providing support in all phases of preparation and issue resolutions for major design reviews, technical interchange meetings, test readiness reviews, and programmatic meetings. The candidate will be required to prepare briefings and meeting minutes, track action items, perform technical trade studies, participate in problem resolution activities, analyze data, participate in risk assessments and mitigation plan development and evaluation, provide hazard analysis assessments, perform flight readiness assessments, evaluate technical feasibility of prime contractor change requests, and review prime contractor documentation submittals for adequacy and content. Expert knowledge of Propulsion and Thermal Control Systems is strongly desired. The candidate should be capable of providing expertise for a wide range of propulsion and thermal components, types, and technologies. Expertise to be applied to the evaluation of system designs, component sizing, trade studies, performance analyses, and test data.
