Reporting to the Director of IT in the College of Science and Technology (CST), the Senior Systems Administrator is responsible for overseeing, updating, and maintaining the server and desktop systems used by the administrative offices and the six departments in the college. Provides technical direction and training guidance to staff and system users; leads the maintenance of existing applications and the development and/or implementation of new applications; develops and maintains system materials and websites; procures and maintains user accounts; advises on software and hardware needs; coordinates file server, database server, domain and workstation troubleshooting and upgrades with Information Technology Services.
The Sr. Systems Administrator recommends departmental policies, strategies and resources related to systems and technical operations of the units and assists in application integrations with university's ERP - Banner system. Performs other duties as assigned.
This position is temporarily assigned a hybrid work arrangement (on-campus and remote). The duration of this hybrid work arrangement is at the discretion of Temple University and the hiring department.
Required Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree and at least two years of relevant technology experience. Demonstrated experience related to server operations, databases, programming, and content management frameworks in heterogeneous environments.
Demonstrated experience with physical deployment of servers and desktop systems. Demonstrated system administration experience with Microsoft Windows Server, RedHat Linux Server and Ubuntu Linux Server. Experience with software provisioning, configuration management, and application-deployment tools; preferably Ansible software.
Demonstrated database management experience with Microsoft SQL and Open-Source databases like MySQL / PostgreSQL. Experience with managing and supporting Microsoft Office 365, Exchange, OneDrive, Teams and SharePoint. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Required Skills and Abilities:
Advanced skill set for the Microsoft Windows operating system, with the ability to proficiently install, upgrade, and troubleshoot all versions of the operating system (desktop / server); preferably Microsoft Deployment Toolkit (MDT) with System Center knowledge.
Demonstrated scripting skills, from a Systems Administrator level; preferably Python or Perl.
Working knowledge of performing data backups and system restorations across multiple platforms.
Ability to address security concerns and requirements on all levels
Demonstrated knowledge of supporting IT staff with desktop and client environments.
Demonstrated knowledge of server virtualization, preferably VMware.
Demonstrated knowledge of Mobile Device Management (MDM) solutions for managing laptops and tablets; preferably JAMF and Microsoft Intune.
Demonstrated ability to elicit and document user requirements and to document completed applications.
Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills along with the ability to effectively interact with a diverse group of individuals.
