About Transmission and Distribution

Southern California Edison's (SCE's) Transmission and Distribution Organizational Unit (T & D) is responsible for planning, engineering, constructing, operating, and maintaining transmission and distribution facilities throughout the 50,000 square mile territory. T&D is the steward of roughly $19 billion in assets that safely and reliably deliver electricity to 15 million residents via SCE's 5 million customer accounts.

Position Overview

The New Development Project Underground Drafting and Design Group Senior Supervisor will be responsible for supervising the activities of the staff by providing direction and support, assessing and managing the workload and performance of the employees, mentoring, and providing training and development to employees. The Supervisor will be accountable for providing accurate reporting on department projects' status and managing resource needs. This position will interface with departmental, company-wide, governmental, and various external organizations to develop and maintain effective working relationships.

Typical Responsibilities Would Include:

  • Work order review and approval; monitoring various reports to ensure accuracy and developing/revising business plans as appropriate.

  • Participating on various teams to assist in improvements within the Design Organization; resolving complex design issues from various planning organizations.

  • Providing future load projections to various departments within SCE; supporting and monitoring the implementation of new work processes and methods, technology and automation (e.g., proactive scheduling of design tasks), while meeting ongoing project demands.

  • Establishing and maintaining consistent work practices according to Power Delivery standards; working to attain customer satisfaction goals; addressing elevated and sensitive customer issues.

  • Managing projects effectively to meet agreed upon expectations; managing the selection, training and development, performance management, compensation and discipline of subordinate personnel; managing and enforcing safety standards and protocols to ensure a safe work environment.

  • Supporting the implementation of change in a change resistant environment; effectively managing workloads to meet established timelines of contract preparation and planner design times as communicated to developers and consultants.

  • Providing oversight of the applicant design/install programs to ensure consistent practices within SCE guidelines; and other duties as directed.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Four of combined experience performing and/or supervising activities related to the design, construction and maintenance, and/or scheduling associated with the Electric Distribution System.
  • A valid Driver's License.

Desired Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Engineering or related field, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

  • Demonstrated experience in the design, construction, and maintenance of the electric distribution system.

  • Demonstrated experience working with Installation Management Services (IMS) and Tract Design, including Edison and Applicant Design/Applicant Install process.

  • Demonstrated experience resolving conflicts in a manner which resulted in win-win solutions.

  • Demonstrated experience providing direction, coaching and mentoring, and making frequent decisions on immediate issues that impact the department, division, or company with limited opportunity for review or reversal.

  • Demonstrated experience maintaining schedules, records and reports, and allocating resources to meet project operating dates.

  • Demonstrated ability to develop strategic plans that support customer satisfaction, work flow processes, and department operations.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage and enforce safety standards and protocols in order to provide a safe work environment.

  • Demonstrated experience supporting the implementation of change in a change resistant environment.

  • Strong oral and written communication skills and be customer focused to appropriately identify and respond to business needs and facilitate the presentation of recommendations.

  • Demonstrated experience interfacing effectively and collaborating with employees, other work units, outside organizations, and all levels of management to develop solutions and ensure stakeholder buy-in.

  • Demonstrated experience gathering and accurately analyzing information and making strategic recommendations that have moderate to significant business impact.

  • Demonstrated ability to independently take initiative and accountability for the accuracy of information and for achieving results.

  • Demonstrated ability to motivate self and others to overcome obstacles and achieve goals.

  • Demonstrated ability to achieve results through others by prioritizing activities, delegating, monitoring the progress of assignments, and holding employees accountable for results.

  • Demonstrated ability to apply human resource policies, procedures, principles, and laws including discipline, training and development, salary administration, selection of personnel, affirmative action, and equal opportunity.

  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and company specific programs such as DM, SAP, AUD, SPIDA, and CSS in addition to Company Intranet and Microsoft Outlook.
