Senior Structural Engineer - Facilities & Equipment Design

Merrick is seeking an experienced Structural Engineer to provide designs for Department of Defense and NASA governmental facilities for our growing new office of employee owners in Merritt Island, FL.

Client projects for this position require U.S. Citizenship.

This position will be responsible for supporting all structural design requirements for the Merritt Island office including the following duties:

  • Working with other disciplines to improve accuracy of the package, to meet schedule, and to meet budget commitments.

  • Providing Facility structural design for NASA, DoD and other governmental agencies.

  • Working in a design team environment, which includes directing the work of junior engineers and designers, and delegating work as required.

  • Collaborating effectively with clients, contractors, fabricators, and other partnering companies.

  • Meeting with clients to prepare and/or validate proposed scope of work.

  • Preparing fee proposals for design work.

  • Performing structural inspections and assessments of existing structures and equipment.

  • Generating comprehensive and detailed engineering products, including technical reports and presentations, calculations, specifications, and drawings.

Required Experience

  • Must have minimum fifteen (15) years of commercial or governmental facility design experience.

  • Must possess effective oral and written communication skills.

  • Must be able to work with autonomy.

  • Experience with conventional structural design codes is required. These include but are not limited to:

  • IBC

  • ASCE 7

  • AISC Steel Construction Manual

  • ACI-318

  • Experience in designing NASA/aerospace projects is preferred.

  • Experience in working with US Army Corps of Engineers is preferred.

  • Experience in working with KSC Design Criteria is preferred.

  • Experience managing others and mentoring junior-level structural engineers is required.

  • Experience interfacing with client contacts.

  • Design experience in AutoCAD and REVIT is a plus.

  • Fluency with Microsoft Office Suite (e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).

  • Experience with structural analysis software packages (e.g. RISA 3D, SAP2000, STAAD Pro) is required.

  • Mechanism, Mechanical Equipment, and pipe stress design experience is a plus.

  • Familiarity with mechanical design codes is a plus. Examples include:

  • ASME Section VIII

  • ASME B31

  • 3D solid element stress analysis is a plus.

  • Client projects for this position require U.S. Citizenship.

  • Degree Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Sciences in Civil Engineering from an ABET Accredited Program.

  • Master's Degree in Civil/Structural Engineering is a plus.

  • Professional engineer license is required.

  • Ability to obtain a Florida PE (Structural) within 4 months.

The qualified applicant will become part of Northrop Grumman's Enterprise Services team. Roles and responsibilities include but may not be limited to: * Designs, plans and integrates systems, applications and solutions for internal site and for external customer launch site cyber systems and networks. * Overall responsibility for the launch site network plan and operation. * Provides specifications and detailed schematics for network architecture. * Provides specific detailed information for hardware and software selection, implementation techniques and tools for the most efficient solution to meet business needs, including present and future capacity requirements. * Conducts testing of network design. * Maintains technical expertise in all areas of network and computer hardware and software interconnection and interfacing, such as routers, multiplexers, firewalls, hubs, bridges, gateways, etc. * Ensures system security needs are established and maintained for operations development, security requirements definition, security risk assessment, systems analysis, systems design, security test and evaluation, certification and accreditation, systems hardening, vulnerability testing and scanning, incident response, disaster recover, and business continuity planning and provides analytical support for security policy development and analysis. * Integrates new architectural analysis of cyber security features and relates existing system to future needs and trends, embeds advanced forensic tools and techniques for attack reconstruction, provides engineering recommendations, and resolves integration and testing issues. * May interface with external entities including law enforcement, intelligence and other government organizations and agencies. * May provide technical support for computers and associated networks. * Installs, troubleshoots, services, and repairs personal computers, network equipment such as servers, modems, multiplexers, related PC software, telephones, cables, and connectors. * Maintains network diagrams and circuit records. * May perform PC, PBX, and network software programming. * Lift equipment weighing up to 40 pounds. * Work after hours and weekends as needed. . Basic Qualifications: * Bachelor's degree and 9 years of related OR Master's degree and 7 years of experience OR PhD and 4 years of experience; 13 years of experience may be considered in lieu of completed degree. * Candidates must have a current TS/SCI clearance (or higher) with an original adjudication, or a periodic re-investigation date, completed within the last 5 years to be considered. * Must have the ability to obtain, and maintain, access to Special Programs as a condition of continued employment. * Experience designing and maintaining LAN & WAN based networks to include secure network routing. * Experience with managing routing protocols on large LAN environments and cross-organizational interfaces. * Experience establishing and supporting launch site campaign networks and protocols for unclassified and secure requirements. * Experience with Cisco hardware including routers, switches, and firewalls. * Experience designing and maintaining LAN & WAN based networks including Telco circuits.
