Introduction

The Senior Stormwater Engineer classification primarily performs professional engineering review of private development and City infrastructure projects for stormwater related issues. The position also participates with management of drainage and flood control studies, manages the City's floodplains regulations and provides technical assistance to other city departments. .

Minimum Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Requires a Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or a closely related field from an accredited educational institution.

  • Six years of progressively responsible experience in the design, review or management of work related to stormwater, drainage, and hydrology/hydraulics.

  • Any equivalent combination of education and/or job-related experience that meets the minimum qualifications may be substituted

Licensing, Certifications and Other Requirements

  • Registration as a Professional Engineer with the Arizona State Board of Technical Registration, OR by the technical board of another state with the ability to obtain Arizona Registration through reciprocity within 6 months of employment.

  • A Certified Floodplain Manager credential from the Association of State Floodplain Managers is required within 18 months of hire is required.

  • Every person employed by the City of Scottsdale shall reside in the State of Arizona during his or her active employment by the City, regardless of whether the employee is approved to remote work.

Essential Functions

Performs duties and responsibilities commensurate with assigned functional area which may include, but are not limited to, any combination of the following:

  • Reviews and provide comments on plans, reports and other documentation for preliminary and final development and infrastructure proposals and determine the nature and extent of impacts to City facilities and private lands.

  • Represents the City in meetings with engineers, developers, owners and architects to communicate and resolve issues relating to the review of development proposals and plans.

  • Acts as technical reviewer on Area Drainage Master Studies/Plans, drainage and flood control studies, design concept reports and capital improvement projects and participates in related project meetings.

  • Reviews complex stormwater management systems for proposed new development.

  • Conducts and implements flood plain management principles and practices in accordance with Federal Emergency Management Agency regulations and City's Stormwater and Floodplain Management Ordinance.

  • Performs technical review of hydrologic models such as HEC-1 / HEC-HMS /FLO-2D

  • Performs technical review of hydraulic models such as HEC-2 / HEC-RAS / FLO -2D

  • Performs technical review of scour and sediment transport evaluations and models Serves as a primary point of contact for stormwater and drainage issues throughout the City.

Work Environment/Physical Demands

  • Most work is performed in a City office environment.

  • Travel to/from meetings, field visits and various other locations.
