SAIC is looking for a Sr. Database Developer/DBA to join the Aviator Training Next (ATN) program in Huntsville, AL.

Job Duties:

  • Design, administer, maintain and document MS SQL Server databases critical to the analysis of the PTN training environment and, when necessary, help to manipulate and transform data to formats required for analysis.

  • Work hand-in-hand with our customer to deliver out-of-the-box training solutions, rapid prototypes and innovative user experiences that have an immediate impact on US Army aviator training.

  • Serve a critical role in helping to ensure valid data collection by manually querying the database, writing automated query scripts, and/or developing health status monitoring applications.


Required Education and Experience

  • Associates and 7 year of related experience OR Bachelors, 5 years of related experience OR Masters and 3 years of related experience OR PhD and 0 years related experience.

  • US Citizen with the ability to obtain a US Citizen

  • Strong working SQL knowledge and experience working with relational databases and query authoring

  • Experience designing and maintaining MS SQL Server databases

  • Experience with data manipulation and normalization processes

  • Desire to work in a fast-paced environment where your work is critical to the program's success

  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills.

Implements and maintains smooth operation and physical design of databases. Conducts performance tuning of indexes and databases in general. Reviews database design and integration of systems, provides backup recovery and makes recommendations regarding enhancements and/or improvements. Maintains security and integrity controls. Formulates policies, procedures, and standards relating to database management, and monitors transaction activity and utilization. May develop stored procedures and/or triggers. Administers a variety of database systems ,such as Microsoft SQL Server, and other Database Management Systems (DBMS). Develops and enforces database administration and user standards and procedures; audits, modifies, and amends data in systems using SQL commands. Oversees the scheduling of database projects, database and transaction log backups, notifications, and database replication between multiple SQL Servers and remote sites. Assists Database Designers/Information System Analysts in the development and creation of SQL and Web-based databases and database systems. Reviews technical designs, reports, documentation, and other materials produced by staff; creates and maintains high-level reporting systems using products such as Crystal Reports; researches and implements new database and online technology. RESPONSIBILITIES * Responsible for the creation of ad-hoc (often complex) database queries * Design and develop schemas, tables, views, stored procedures, functions, packages, and jobs * Test database objects and processes to ensure they are working correctly * Proactive in resolving conflicts and issues within existing processes * Develop enhancements that result in improved efficiency * Document database design and processes * Coordinate, plan, and manage complex database solutions * Perform database extract, transform, and load (ETL) operations utilizing a variety of file formats CSV, XML, JSON, etc. * Translate business logic into database objects to facilitate calculations and reporting * Monitor database utilization and adjust/tune configuration to maintain optimal performance * Support Web Application Production and Development databases * Actively interface with customer(s) in support of technical status meetings, requirements, etc. * Develop and maintain industry best practices * Maintain required documentation * Available for occasional travel up to 10% Qualifications QUALIFICATIONS * Requires 5 to 8 years with BS/BA or 3 to 5 years with MS/MA * SQL Server Administration 3+ years * Active CompTIA Security+ Certification and equivalent acceptable Computing Environment Certification(s) * U.S. citizenship is required * Working onsite required (no telecommuting) * Ability to obtain an Interim SECRET security clearance is required (active clearance preferred) * Experience with the following languages required: T-SQL (Transact-SQL), PL/SQL or ANSI SQL, .NET Framework * Experience with the following languages preferred: Python, Spark, JavaScript, ECMAScript, Java * Ability to communicate effectively with the customer in order to transform customer needs, expectations, and constraints into database requirements * Knowledge and experience with Army Maintenance & Logistics preferred * Strong verbal and written communication skills * Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced development environment * Ability to work collaboratively within an Agile team environment * Ability to adapt to changing technologies and requirements * Experience with PowerBI * Experience with Red Hat Linux * Experience with Erwin Data Modeler * Experience with version/source control of databases/database objects About Perspecta What matters to our nation, is what matters to us.
