POSITION SUMMARY:

This position will assist with field Health and Safety audits and inspections. Assist in developing corrective actions based upon findings

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assists with incident investigations and Root Cause Analyses (RCAs).

  • Assists and maintain site Health & Safety and environmental files to ensure compliance with government requirements and company initiatives.

  • Analyze work and plant conditions at the facility and advise and recommend changes to support policies and/or regulations, which include ergonomics, JSAs, and the implementation of new programs. Maintain overall safety program document management per procedures, accident reporting and control, VPP related, GHS, training records, equipment inventories, OSHA 300.

  • Assists with Plant meetings/postings: This includes providing a safety perspective at daily, weekly, and monthly strategic plant meetings as well as at safety committee meeting. Must be prepared to discuss the plant work and respond to planning and budgeting meetings. This includes the implementation of safety action items to resolution and tailgating sessions, plant letters, postings, one on one safety reviews, etc.

  • Assist with all safety training: Prepare and present training to plant employees on all safety programs, guidelines, and requirements at every opportunity. This includes during outage planning and contractor pre-site preparation. Annual environmental training: Prepare and present training to plant employees on environmental programs and requirements

  • Maintain and use monitoring equipment and facility safety inspections including noise surveys, industrial hygiene, IH sampling and respiratory testing.

  • Assist at preparing, calibrating, and maintaining of safety equipment; take samples during outages and normal operations; compile data and create notifications and follow-up to control hazards. Includes inspection of respirators, rigging equipment, harnesses and other fall protection equipment, Portacount, etc.

  • Assists with accident investigating and reporting: Conduct accident investigations, SafeStat/Process Map reporting, corrective actions, near miss evaluations.

  • Assists with Outage Safety. Includes contractor safety, scaffold inspections, outage preparation and safety management during outage. This may require some budget preparation and planning.

  • Assists with Medical surveillance and clinic/WorkCare coordination. Schedule and review monitoring of employee blood lead results, clinic communication, management of exam process and employee

EXPERIENCE AND SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Operations and Maintenance field experience (preferably in waste-to-energy or power plant facilities)

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, and proficiency in MS Office Suite, and Excel are required

  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects / programs simultaneously and work well with all levels of the organization.

  • Capability and comfort level with public speaking, as he or she will be responsible for providing effective health and safety training.

  • Must be able to stand/walk for sustained periods of time; carry monitoring equipment; climb ladders; work at heights; work in confined spaces, and wear required personal protective equipment within guidelines set by Covanta procedures.

  • Must be respirator fit qualified.

  • Minimum of a High School diploma or equivalent.

  • Must be able to speak, read and write in English.

  • Must be able to pass respirator fit testing on a daily basis.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor's Degree in safety and health, or Associate's degree in engineering or science-related area coupled with 3-5 years Health & Safety experience with a working knowledge of OSHA 1910 regulations, or a minimum of 5 years of experience as a safety professional in an industrial environment; CSP certification is a plus.

  • Minimum of high school diploma or equivalent

  • Bilingual preferred but not required

  • Experience working at power plant or industrial site a plus

Summary: This position is responsible for planning, implementing, and supervising project safety and accident and fire protection programs in compliance with corporate safety program standards on all job sites. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: * Recognize and control hazardous working conditions and unsafe employee and subcontractor activities through safety management and contacting supervisory personnel * Conduct work area surveillance inspections, air sampling tests, property damage and conduct personal injury investigations.
