We have a current opportunity for a Sr Spacecraft Systems Engineer to join our team in Chantilly, VA. This role uses a digital and model-based systems engineering (MBSE) to design, develop, integrate, and test end-to-end spacecraft systems and payloads through their entire life cycle. Serves as senior technical leader to the business to develop Digital Engineering and MBSE processes and procedures for spacecraft and mission development. Is instrumental in attracting/obtaining major new business.

Responsibilities

  • Serves as senior technical leader to the business to develop Digital Engineering and MBSE processes and procedures for spacecraft and mission development.

  • Leverage Digital Engineering and MBSE tools to support full systems engineering lifecycle.

  • Generates quantifiable requirements based on customer description, system planning and design, and acquisition logistics.

  • Ensures requirements comply with client requirements and government standards through formal verification methods.

  • Translates high level spacecraft development strategies into system requirement specifications and works with other engineering disciplines to develop lower-level detailed implementation requirements.

  • Establishes and coordinates development of standards, practices, and procedures as related to the overall system development.

  • Designs interfaces and brings system elements together, so they work as a whole.

  • Assesses performance using evaluation criteria and technical performance measures.

  • Customer liaison and support for business development activities and to understand and shape requirements.

  • Participates in system conceptual design and documentation of the design concepts.

  • Generates system level requirements verification procedures and customer acceptance test procedures.

  • Reviews test plans/procedures and ensures they meet the objectives of the contractual requirements and participates in the testing process to validate requirements.

  • Technical management of program elements

  • Plan and conduct of technical reviews and technical baseline.

  • Write status and technical performance reviews and reports.

  • Mentor, coach, train, guide, direct and advise junior staff.

  • Must be able to recognize and mitigate technical issues and risks while operating within budget and on schedule.

  • The candidate will work with cross-discipline team members and must have excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to work with a diverse community of engineers and managers to achieve the goals of the program team.

Ideal Experience

  • B.S. in Aerospace Engineering, Systems Engineering, or other space-related discipline.

  • Minimum of 10 years' experience in space industry, including developing, designing, manufacturing, and testing space flight hardware.

  • Demonstrated experience with Spacecraft development, deployment and operations.

  • Must have a well-rounded System Level approach with demonstrated technical leadership.

  • Must have experience with Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE)

  • Minimum 2 years' experience with Cameo Systems Modeler and SysML

  • Experience with space systems engineering including an understanding of space vehicle design, space system architecture development, and space missions and operations development.

  • Strong attention to detail with advanced verbal and written communication skills.

  • Self-motivated in applying engineering principles, concepts, and practices of systems engineering to independently perform assignments.

  • Ability to travel - an average of 10-15% travel may be required. Most of the travel is local but some overnight travel may be required.

  • Must have US Citizenship with current or active DoD TS/SCI Clearance

Desired Skills

  • M.S. in Aerospace Engineering, Systems Engineering, or other space-related discipline.

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office 365, including SharePoint and Teams. Microsoft Project experience a plus.
