The Whole Life Systems Engineering (WLSE) Directorate is responsible for ensuring our products are Safe, Reliable, Maintainable, under configuration control and delivered on time. WLSE consists of multiple disciplines that support engineering, our program offices and our customers. WLSE disciplines participate in the total life cycle of our products from conception to deactivation. WLSE's charter is focused in two main areas; product support and technical data support. In the product support area, the departments include Reliability Engineering, System Safety, Mission Support and Lifecycle Engineering. On the technical data side, the departments are Hardware Configuration Management and Integrated Design Check (CM/IDC), Software Configuration Management (SWCM), and Data Management, Engineering Support and Execution (DEX)
The Software Configuration Management (SWCM) department follows the basic principles of Configuration Management. SWCM establishes and maintains the integrity of the products for the program through the entire life cycle of digital products. The WLSE Software Configuration Management department provides innovative solutions through automation, continuous improvement and a skilled workforce to provide support for all computing products including embedded software, configurable logic, test equipment, simulations, COTS and tools.
The Software Configuration Management Engineer plans, coordinates, and executes Configuration Management (CM) activities, including:
Establish, perform and maintain software builds using an automated SWCM tool, such as IBM Rational Synergy
Provide SWCM support to the Software Configuration Control Board and represent the organization as a prime technical contact who will interact with senior engineers
Guide successful completion of major programs and projects
Develop and implement SWCM processes and procedures in accordance with company Policies and Procedures
Manage software products in developmental libraries
Participate in software audits and reviews
The successful applicant will work as a self-starter, team player, and excellent communicator. He or she will interact effectively with program personnel, and will possess a working knowledge of the software development lifecycle and SEI CMMI standards.
U.S. Citizenship status is required, as this position needs an active U.S. Security Clearance as of day one of employment.
Required Skills, Education, and Experience:
Required: Bachelor's Degree in engineering disciplines, hard science, mathematics, physics, management information systems, or related technical degrees
A minimum of four (8) years professional engineering experience
An existing DOD secret clearance
Experience with CM tools
SWCM or software development experience
Experience with SWCM process definition and implementation
Solid proficiency in Windows, DOS and Unix/Linux Operating Systems
Experience with using an automated SWCM tool, such as Synergy, Team Foundation Server/Azure DevOps Server, to establish software configurations, perform software builds and releases
Working knowledge of the SEI Capability Maturity Model (CMM) and SEI Capability Maturity Model Integration (CMMI) and experience with SWCM process definition and implementation
Desired Skills, Education, and Experience:
Advanced degree in aforementioned disciplines. ABET is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard
Synergy database administration, or database administration in other SWCM tools
Extensive experience with PC software applications and demonstrated ability to quickly learn how to use new software on any platform
UNIX/Linux Shell Scripting
Experience with CM tools
Shell scripting ability and software development background
Demonstrated ability to provide outstanding customer service. Work effectively with all levels of management, peers and subordinates
