The Senior Software Engineer in the Hardware Integrations team at TransLoc will create solutions to integrate with various transit and bus related devices to query and update information to make transit smarter. In this position, you will help build and maintain a smart controller that connects each device to the cloud services and software used to manage operations for transit agencies. The Hardware Integrations team covers a wide gamut of technology, from low level systems programming to web application development.

This person will...

  • Working closely with a team to solve transit problems
  • Developing integrations to various transit devices over serial and IP
  • Debugging problems with hardware and integrations
  • Keeping abreast of trends and best practices in software engineering and transit

Preferred Experience...

  • Experience working within an agile environment on a Scrum team
  • Experience building and delivering IoT devices
  • Experience leading mentoring other engineers
  • Passion for solving hard problems
  • Knowledge of industry best practices for maintaining remote embedded systems
  • Understanding of Relational and Non-relational Databases
  • Designing and developing boards and circuitry necessary to talk to other devices.
  • Working with transit hardware such as Signage and Automatic Passenger Counters
  • Experience with Android
  • Comfortable with hardware debug tools (DMM, oscilloscopes, logic analyzers) and software debug tools (GDB, KGDB, JTAG)


  • Experience working on embedded Linux systems
  • Experience writing software in various languages (C/C++, Java, Kotlin, BASH)
  • Experience developing HW systems that can be managed completely remotely (OTA updates, atomic OS upgrades, remote system management)
  • 5+ years experience working within a highly collaborative team environment
  • 5+ years experience communicating with devices over serial protocols
  • 2+ years experience working with web technologies or web applications
  • Understanding of high level networking (TCP, UDP, HTTP, MQTT)
