The Amazon Ways to Pay program provides solutions that improve the customer's confidence and ability to purchase throughout their Amazon Devices journey.

Following on the team vision, the Ways to Pay program currently owns 3 major programs at Amazon. 1) Installments, 2) Trade-in and 3) Innovation.

The Amazon Installments team lowers the barrier to enjoying Amazon products (Devices and Retail) by offering customers convenient payment plans that improve personal cash flow without requiring any finance charges, interest, hidden fees, credit checks, or credit applications. Specifically, we allow customers to purchase Amazon Devices, and some retail products in monthly payments instead of a single upfront payment.

The Trade-In program reduces upgrade friction for existing customers and decreases switching costs for users with competing devices allowing customers to more easily experience our latest offerings. Specifically, this enables customers to upgrade their older generation devices to the latest versions, or switch from various 3rd party devices to Amazon devices at lower price points.

Tech teams under the Ways to Pay programs are heavily Java based, and we are following a micro-services based architecture. In addition to Java, we do have some development that is done in Perl/Mason, and some front-end work that is done in JavaScript, HTML, CSS, etc, but this is typically done by one of our Front-End engineers.

We leverage a combination of AWS services (Dyanmo, S3, ElasticSearch, etc) as well as leverage existing Amazon Retail systems to enable us to scale while keeping operations low.

The Amazon Ways to Pay programs are seeing phenomenal growth rate from a business perspective, and we need to evolve the technical architecture to continue to meeting the scaling demands of this growth rate, servicing millions of customer transactions, and billions of interactions between services. As we continue to evolve in 2019 and into 2020 there will be an increase in demand for us to use Machine Learning and Personalization to help us scale the business targeting part of the program.

As a Senior Software Engineer on the the Ways to Pay team, you will be responsible for designing and building the technical infrastructure to support sustained growth rate and enable rapid innovation in the programs.
