Position Summary

The IT Software Developer is a multi- lingual (Spanish and English) member of an information technology team responsible for delivering new system functionality and supporting existing systems in an iSeries (AS400) COBOL environment.

The incumbent should be bilingual (Spanish/English) and will be responsible for accomplishing all project and production support work within prescribed timeframes while adhering to standards and best practices for SDLC-related tasks including development, unit testing, production promotion and rollback planning. Familiarity with Agile/Scrum methodology is a plus.

Assists with troubleshooting and resolving application issues. Proactively and independently learns and utilizes new technology, concepts and procedures as appropriate to breath of work. Maintains current knowledge of industry technology trends.

Job Duties

Designs and develops new systems on a cobol based language in the AS-400, as well as existing systems, with an emphasis on minimized maintenance requirements.

Confers with systems analysts, developers and others to design systems and to obtain information on project limitations and capabilities, performance requirements and interfaces

Analyzes problem areas, designs and implements system improvements and conversion procedures as needed

Defines and enforces checks and balances for operational controls for Financial Systems

Designs and recommends improved operational procedures to maximize system efficiencies; provides guidance to solving complex operation malfunctions.

Responsible for Providing production support for vendor supplied and/or in-house developed applications.

Responsible for system integrity and installation of technology upgrades

Responsible for overall program/application performance and provides support in the resolution of program and application issues

Provides technical input to other areas and gathers data from outside the organization. Suggests improvements and efficiencies modifications for supported applications

Provides after hours support as needed

Proactively and independently learns and utilizes new technology, concepts and procedures as appropriate to project requirements.

Maintains current knowledge of industry technology trends.

Mentors and supports members of the application development staff

Develops business knowledge within specific lines of business at Pan-American Life Insurance Group.

Works with Analysts and Business partners to understand requirements and propose solutions.

Job Specific Competencies

Required: Six to nine years of programming experience as a Software Developer including basic skills in Information Technology.

Preferred: College degree
