Sr Software Dev Engineer, Wondery

DESCRIPTION

Wondery (an Amazon company) is seeking an innovative, forward-thinking, and passionate Senior Software Dev Engineer with proven experience in full-stack development for digital media products. In this role, you will be responsible for architecting and developing technical solutions against a product and technology roadmap to build new audio and video customer experiences, and drive improvements for our Wondery App, Websites and Backend Services.

The Role

Software Development Engineers on the Wondery team are end-to-end owners. They use technology to solve complex problems across the backend ecosystems that support the Wondery mobile app, websites, and backend services. They collaborate with team members within Wondery, Amazon, and external engineering teams. They are hands-on, pragmatic problem solvers that easily balances trade-offs between competing interests. They thrive in a fast-moving team environment where they are able to juggle complex dependencies and requirements while producing optimal solutions. Ambiguity and creativity are both expected and the norm. They have the responsibility to improve and build new tools, services, and applications. Taking a business problem from conception and designing, developing and deploying software solutions while holding a high bar for code quality and their craft, is at the heart of how they make impact. They have a responsibility to deliver on schedule using current software engineering best practices.

Communication is an integral part of this role, and there is an expectation that they will engage with different stakeholders on planning and communication of project deliverables. They may also be part of an on-call rotation within their team and in the event of problems, are able to troubleshoot, research the root cause, thoroughly resolve defects whilst maintaining ongoing communication with stakeholders and customers.

The ideal candidate is a self-starter with experience in full-stack software development leveraging AWS-based services, has strong technology management skills, deep experience building backend services that support mobile apps and websites, is forward-thinking, deftly navigates ambiguity, communicates well, uses data to create competitive advantage, loves to tinker with technology, and has great technical instincts.

Key job responsibilities

• Lead the software development efforts for Wondery's backend services that support the Wondery mobile apps, websites, and API integrations

• Partner with a wide range of stakeholders, including marketing, product, and analytics to deliver new features and capabilities to support the podcast business

• Collaborate with software engineering teams from Wondery, Amazon, and third-party engineers

• Architect and develop flexible data models and APIs to support Wondery products

• Focus on scalability, performance, service robustness, and cost trade-offs (especially as they pertain to a highly-virtualized, elastic, cloud-based environment.)

• Stay abreast of industry trends, technologies, new services, and make recommendations for technology improvements that will help shape the future of podcast delivery architectures

• Manage existing technical architecture and develop new systems using AWS-based solutions

• Deliver POCs and proposals for integrations with emerging technologies

• Problem solve and troubleshoot with the ability to come up with creative solutions to seemingly impossible engineering problems

• Serve as a bridge between business need and technical implementation

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

• 5+ years of non-internship professional software development experience

• 5+ years of programming with at least one software programming language experience

• 5+ years of leading design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience

• Experience as a mentor, tech lead or leading an engineering team

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent

• 5+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience

• 5+ years of full stack development experience

• Experience leading the architecture and design (architecture, design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and current systems

• High level of fluency and experience using Javascript, Typescript, and Python; experience building and integrating with ReactNative mobile apps; experience building and scaling RESTful APIs

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $134,500/year in our lowest geographic market up to $261,500/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
