The incumbent of this position serves as a Specialist working in the Health Care team's Research Support Group (HC RSG). HC RSG works with members of GAO's Health Care team to provide technical analysis, specialized reviews, and guidance on methodological issues.

Conducts research on a wide-range of health related topics using a variety of social science techniques.
Advises teams and assists them to select appropriate methodology and to implement analyses in accordance with GAO standards.
Assists teams with quantitative and qualitative data collection methods and advises on form, content, scope, and depth of analysis.
Evaluates and analyzes data to determine, in collaboration with engagement team, their relevance and reliability. Plans and executes quantitative and qualitative data analysis. Provides advice and guidance to Analyst staff in preparing report sections and assists teams in briefing top-level officials within and outside GAO on the results of studies.
Leads others in planning, developing, and executing the methodology of complex research projects. Serves as a coach and mentor to less experienced Social Science Analysts and PDP staff.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Occasional travel - A very limited amount of travel may be required.

This position requires applicants to have at least 1-year of specialized experience equivalent to the PE-I (GS-12) grade/band level in the Federal Service. For this position specialized experience is defined as independently developing appropriate data collection strategies using a variety of measurement instruments, independently planning and executing quantitative and qualitative data analysis utilizing research skills and statistical methods, and leading others in planning, developing, and executing the methodology of complex projects. The incumbent assists teams in selecting an appropriate methodology and in implementing analyses in accordance with professional social science standards.

Bachelor's degree in behavioral or social science or related disciplines appropriate to this position; OR combination of education and experience that provided the applicant with knowledge of one or more behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field; OR four years of appropriate experience that demonstrated that the applicant has acquired knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field.
