About This Position

This position operates within broad parameters and is involved in applying accounting principles and other specialized expertise to solve complex accounting and reporting problems. The position requires comfort with authoritative and interpretive accounting guidance pertinent to industrial manufacturers and business growth activities. The SEC Reporting and Technical Accounting Senior Manager interfaces with personnel at all levels of the Company, including across business lines and departments within the organization. The role involves routine interaction with the Company's internal and external auditors on technical accounting, SEC reporting, and other corporate accounting matters, as well as familiarity with how internal and external auditors apply procedures to the range of management assertions reflected in financial statements of public companies.

Essential Functions

  • Manage the preparation and review of external reporting documents filed with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), including drafting, change control management, and filing of Forms 10-K, 10-Q, 8-K, and DEF 14A (definitive proxy statement), as well as other compliance filings.

  • Ensure timely and accurate presentation of financial statements and disclosures in accordance with GAAP and SEC regulations, as well as consistent presentation of earnings and related releases.

  • Research and document technical accounting positions including preparing internal memorandums and analyses for review by Finance management and the Company's external auditors.

  • Demonstrate proficiency with authoritative and interpretive accounting guidance on leases, long-lived assets, goodwill, revenue from contracts with customers, business combinations, consolidation and joint ventures, fair value measurement, contingencies, debt, presentation of financial statements, statement of cash flows, and accounting changes.

  • Demonstrate superior technical writing abilities including concise documentation of constructs, accounting guidance, interpretations, and conclusions.

  • Participate in and provide oversight of the Company's lease accounting activities, including contract reviews, preparation and review of accounting assessments for new and modified leases, and review of lease account reconciliations.

  • Support the preparation and review of the Company's consolidated statement of cash flows.

  • Provide critical support for the annual audits of financial statements and internal controls.

  • Active business partner with Finance, Accounting, and Operations personnel on the financial accounting and reporting implications of contracts, transactions, and events to drive optimal business results.

  • Collaborates with a group of professionals with significant SEC reporting and technical accounting background and expertise and supervises up to three professional staff.

  • Reviews documentation compiled by the SEC Reporting team supporting the financial statements, footnotes and MD&A.

  • Assist with the assessment and implementation of new accounting pronouncements and SEC rules.

Internal Control Responsibilities

Maintains current knowledge of internal control changes and is involved with refinement of internal control processes. Encourages the reporting and remediation of control violations. Strives for continuous improvement within operations. Challenges conventional thinking to obtain the most efficient solutions to issues. Utilizes best practices, benchmarks, and metrics to improve organization.

Supervisory Responsibility

Initial supervision of one to two Senior Technical Accounting Analysts. Assists the Senior Director of Accounting and Reporting with supervision of the SEC Reporting and Technical Accounting team.

Interpersonal Contacts

Internal contacts include senior Finance management, the tax department, in-house counsel, procurement personnel, operations and shared services controllers and their accounting personnel, operations personnel, contractors, and colleagues on the SEC Reporting and Technical Accounting team. Contacts are by video conference, phone, email, instant messaging, and in person.

External contacts include primarily auditors, consultants, outside counsel and vendors. Contacts are by phone, email, and in person.

Job Conditions

Most members of the Accounting team are currently working in the corporate headquarters (Portland, Oregon) two days per week and remotely three days per week, which is subject to change. Overtime may be required to complete deadline work for month-end, quarter-end, and year-end processing. Participation is critical during quarterly and year-end reporting phases. Ability and willingness to work beyond normal work hours during critical reporting periods is important.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance

  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) required

  • At least 6 years of experience at a large accounting firm, or combination of public accounting and industry

  • Advanced knowledge of GAAP accounting and disclosure requirements and SEC rules

  • Superior technical writing and communication skills

  • Ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively within a team environment

  • Strong PC skills (Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint)

  • Strong supervisory and management skills
