AWS Applications and Higher Level Abstractions (Apps) provides horizontal and industry vertical applications for business users with the same on-demand scalability, reliability, pay-as-you-go pricing, and machine learning expertise that drive AWS services. The AWS Applications group includes services such as Amazon Connect (a cost-effective cloud contact center), our End User Computing (including Amazon Workspaces, AppStream, etc.), Marketing Tech (Amazon Pinpoint), and Autonomous Checkout and Identity Services (Just Walk Out, Amazon One) for retail, sports, travel, and other verticals.

The AWS Apps team is looking for you - a curious and motivated engineer building next generation order management and orchestration services, that enable an ecosystem of vendors and retailers to provide a seamless shopping experience across channels.

As a Software Development Engineer in AWS Apps, you will work in a team of talented engineers to build a set of low-latency distributed solutions that leverage existing AWS and retail solutions where possible, as well as identify and evaluate new technology options for the challenges we are trying to solve. We are looking for a smart engineer who can effectively deal with ambiguity and work independently to clarify requirements, build prototypes and deliver results quickly.

Key job responsibilities

Work collaboratively with our PM, QA and partner teams across multiple retail and AWS organizations to create designs that can scale across Amazon and third party systems

Lead the design, development, deployment and operational excellence activities, and drive best practices across these areas.

Be a senior leader on the team who mentors other developers via code reviews, design reviews and 1:1s, and participates in the hiring process

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

• 5+ years of non-internship professional software development experience

• 5+ years of programming with at least one software programming language experience

• 5+ years of leading design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience

• Experience as a mentor, tech lead or leading an engineering team

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• 5+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience

• Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $151,300/year in our lowest geographic market up to $261,500/year in our highest geographic market.

Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
