$74,796 - $100,975 - $127,152
Personnel in this job title may be covered by NERC CIP cyber security standards. If the position is covered, prior to being hired, promoted, or transferred into the position, the candidate must successfully pass a Personnel Risk Assessment, which includes identity verification and a criminal background check.
Prior to being granted unescorted access to cyber secure areas, the candidate must attend cyber security training. Annual cyber security training is also required.
SUMMARY:
Under general supervision, directs the safety and industrial hygiene program and functions for the assigned portion of the company and ensures effective service delivery. Develops, reviews and/or presents safety training. Performs other safety activities, including field evaluations/investigations and working on safety projects, often in concert with corporate safety.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Evaluates existing OSHA, DOT, and other regulations and monitors them for changes, developments and analyzes their impact to company operations
Interfaces with and represents company interests to local, state, and federal agencies
Monitors and reports on company compliance to safety and health regulatory agencies when required.
Participates in loss control inspections, root cause accident investigations, and interprets regulations, the Company Employee Safety Manual, and related policies
Implements and updates local and corporate loss control programs, procedures, and products
Establishes procedures to ensure accurate hazard identification, evaluation, and control
Develops and conducts training for field Environment Health and Safety (EHS) staff in risk assessment and risk minimization
COMPETENCIES:
Extensive knowledge of EHS principles and leadership techniques for problem identification and solution
Maintains working knowledge of corporate, competitive, territorial, and regulatory issues
Ability to formulate programs and practices that will detect, identify, and prevent incidents that have the potential for occupational diseases, injury, property and equipment damage, and other losses
Knowledge of OSHA, EPA, NFPA, DOT, and other regulations and standards
Ability to represent company interests to local, state, and federal agencies
Thorough understanding of company policies and procedures related to Safety that reflects corporate philosophy
Ability to monitor and report on company compliance to safety and health regulatory agencies
Ability to assist other departments in creating and presenting various EHS programs
Ability to monitor management participation in the prevention of accidents, illnesses, property, and equipment damage
Ability to establish policies and procedures relating to EHS
Ability to prepare and present safety training to employees one-on-one, in meetings, or in classroom environments
QUALIFICATIONS
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor's degree in a related field with five to seven years of related experience, or equivalent combination of education and/or experience related to the discipline.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
OSHA 500 or 501 (30-hour) Safety Outreach Program certificates (or equivalent training) preferred.
The above plus two of the following:
Industrial Hygiene Certification.
An ASSE Occupational Safety and Health Self-Study Correspondence Course Certificate.
A home study course certificate from the National Safety Council.
Principles of Occupational Health and Safety Certificate.
A current Associate Safety Professional Certificate.
An Occupational Health and Safety Technologist (OHST) Certificate.
A Construction Health and Safety Technologist (CHST) Certificate.
Certified Safety Professional Certification (CSP).
Certified Industrial Hygienist Certification (CIH)or Masters of Industrial Hygiene.
Certified Fire Protection Specialist Certification .
Certified Protection Professional Certification.
Must possess a current, legally valid driver¿s license and meet the company¿s driving record requirements.
COMMUNICATION SKILLS:
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations
Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals
Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public
COMPUTER SKILLS:
Working knowledge of personal computers
Working knowledge of spreadsheet and word processing software
ANALYSIS AND PROBLEM-SOLVING ABILITY:
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Ability to sit up to 2/3 of the time and to stand, walk, and stoop up to 1/3 of the time. Good vision and ability to adjust focus is required.
Manual dexterity is required.
Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Office/field environment. Sometimes required to work in inclement weather.
