Provides expertise in support of research projects in social science, behavioral science, or humanities, including psychology, sociology, education, etc. Performs advanced testing procedures, data collection, and analysis.

Prepares reports. May work with human subjects and contribute to grant proposal development. Ensures experiments are performed according to specifications.

May make recommendations to changes in procedure, processes, or experimental design. May prepare and/or edit research papers, proposals and reports.Possesses, understands, and applies an advanced knowledge crossing fields of specialization to develop unique and new approaches or ideas. Understands and uses effective management techniques.Duties:

Plans assignments and sequence of events for multiple large and complex projects. Reviews progress of projects. May liaison with other areas of specialization to obtain support or technical expertise for projects.

Defines procedures or processes to be used in the experimental processes. May personally conduct important and/or technically complex investigations.Supervision: Operates with wide latitude for unreviewed action subject only to institutional policies and guidelines and ethical considerations. Reviews and evaluates the effectiveness of personnel.

The SUSTAIN Wellbeing Center is seeking applications for a part-time Social Behavioral Science Senior Researcher to work closely with an interdisciplinary team to advance scholarship focused on community based participatory action research and public impact scholarship based on social, racial and economic justice values. The research scholar will work under the direction of the Center Director and Program Manager on a) enhancing community - academic institution relationships; b) ensuring the progression of research related activities and c) shaping the organizational culture with intersectional as well as racial/ethnic, gender and sexuality affirming strategies.

The ideal research scholar demonstrates investment in the wellbeing and success of fellow staff and community partners. General responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • May review and evaluate the effectiveness of MSW/Doctoral students working on programs/projects under control.

  • May plan for and assign other team personnel to programs/projects under control.

Masters and 7 years experience

Master's Degree with 7 years experience.

Preferred: Degree in social work, psychology, sociology, human behavior, or other equivalent human social science content area.

Has extensive knowledge/experience in mental health, substance misuse (harm reduction focus), trauma-informed care and wellness/wellbeing in the context of HIV/AIDS. Has demonstrated commitment and desire to center communities disproportionately impacted by HIV/AIDS including but not limited to Black, Latinx, Indigenous/First Nations, TGNC, LGBQ, same gender loving communities. Has deep understanding of language, racial, gender, sexuality and economic justice in research and advocacy.

Exhibits strong strategic, analytical and problem-solving skills. Experience in quantitative data analysis with SPSS, qualitative data analysis with Dedoose, preparation of manuscripts for publication, and public speaking for conference presentations or training are

highly desired. Exhibits excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.

Performs advanced behavioral coding of videotapes of mother-child interactions, data collection, and analysis. Prepares reports. May work with human subjects and contribute to grant proposal development. Ensures research tasks are performed according to specifications. May make recommendations to changes in procedure, processes, or research design. May prepare and/or edit research papers, proposals and reports. Skill Level: Understands and applies fundamental theoretical concepts in area of specialization, specifically knowledge of parenting styles and typical development from early childhood through middle childhood, knowledge of videotape-based behavioral coding, and knowledge of ethical guidelines for research with children and families. Duties: Conducts behavioral coding of videotapes of mother-child interactions according to a standardized coding scheme to measure emotional expression and emotion socialization. Responsible for following lab protocols for organizing and maintaining data entry, video and transcription files for lab projects. Work is varied and somewhat difficult. Originality and ingenuity are required. Supervision: Receives direct supervision referring complex situations to higher levels.
