POSITION SUMMARY:
The Sr AI Research Scientist is responsible for modeling complex clinical and research problems, discovering insights and identifying opportunities through the use of AI, machine learning, and natural language processing techniques. In addition to advanced analytic skills, this role is also proficient at integrating and preparing large, varied datasets, designing specialized databases and computing environments, and presenting research findings and results through publications. Research Scientist will work closely with the principal investigators, project managers, and other IT teams to turn data into actionable information and knowledge that can be used to improve clinical decision-making. Core traits include creative thinking, innovative proposals, and expert data mining techniques. They will need to validate their findings using an experimental and iterative approach. In addition, he/she will perform diverse and complex duties in a manner consistent with a dynamic and active biomedical education and research community.
Responsibilities
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Major responsibilities include conducting innovative research in biomedical AI applications. In addition to advanced analytics on structured electronic health records and clinical text through machine (deep) learning modeling and natural language processing, the incumbent will also contribute to software package development, scientific paper writing and presenting at national/international conferences. Research topics include but are not limited to:
Data transformation and management
Multi-modal learning and fusion of EHR data and diverse types of health data
Deep representation learning of tabular data and textual data
Longitudinal modeling for clinical risk prediction
Time series analysis and representation
Prototype development and data visualization
Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Master's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Biomedical Informatics, a related field, or equivalent experience
5 years related research experience, 2 years preferably in AI
Solid programming skills in Python, Java or C++, familiar with one machine learning library (e.g., scikit-learn)
Experience in Unix/Linux environment and SQL queries
Self-motivated and able to meet deadlines for deliverables
Strong interpersonal and communication skills required
Ability to communicate effectively in writing
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
PhD preferred in Computer Science, Data Science, Biomedical Informatics, a related field, or equivalent experience
Proven experience with electronic health records (EHRs) data, machine learning (deep learning), and natural language processing (NLP)
Experience in popular deep learning models (e.g., LSTM, CNN, Resnet, Transformer, Large Language Models) and deep tabular learning models (e.g., TabNet, TabTransformer)
Knowledge of AI model interpretability and fairness
Strong writing skills with tracking records of publication
Familiar with research prototyping (e.g., user interface, dashboard)
