Job Summary (Primary function) This position will be responsible for designing, performing, and interpreting in vitro and in vivo studies for drug discovery programs. This includes the development of relevant model systems for the identification, validation, and screening of small and large molecules against novel therapeutic targets.

The successful candidate is extremely organized, able to work independently, and demonstrates a broad understanding of immunology, hematology, and/or cancer biology, being able to use this knowledge to design and execute a research plan that answers critical questions about compounds and targets under evaluation. Essential Functions of the Job (Key responsibilities) · Design, execute, and interpret cell-based in vitro experiments to explore the therapeutic potential of small and large molecules · Identify and develop assays to screen functional activity of drug candidates · Culture of cell lines and primary cells · Isolation and culture of human hematopoietic cells · Flow cytometry of mouse and human hematopoietic progenitor cells · Design appropriate in vivo models to answer key biological and pharmacological questions · Evaluate data, prepare reports and presentations for internal and external meetings · Excellent record keeping · Work collaboratively across multiple functional groups within drug discovery and clinical development to achieve key corporate goals · Coordinate CRO work Qualifications (Minimal acceptable level of education, work experience, and competency) · Ph.D. in Immunology, Hematology, Cancer Biology, Pharmacology, or related field · Post-doctoral experience in a relevant field · Preferred previous experience in the pharmaceutical or biotech industry · Strong background in hematology, immunology, oncogenic signaling pathways, and/or fibrosis · Able to design and interpret oncology in vivo studies · Expertise in the following techniques is mandatory: magnetic cell isolation, cell culture, phenotyping of bone marrow progenitors using multicolor flow cytometry, CFU assays using CD34+ cells, ELISA, MSD, Western blot for signaling pathway proteins, basic molecular biology including isolation of nucleic acid and real-time PCR · Excellent communication skills Disclaimer: The above statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work performed by employees assigned to this job.
