Responsibilities

GENERAL PURPOSE:

The Senior Research Grant Accountant - Compliance and Sponsor Reporting, works closely with faculty (PIs), and Department Administrators and Staff in support of the Office of Research Accounting and Costing Standards (ORACS), the College's Post-Award Sponsored Research Office within the Finance Department of the University of Rochester. Reporting to the Managers of ORACS, the Senior Research Grant Accountant is responsible for reliable stewardship of assigned research departments within the University and their sponsored awards overseeing strict adherence to contractual terms and all other applicable compliance requirements and terms and conditions per various contractual agreements.

This requires monitoring financial transactions and other post-award administration from project set-up and amendments to closeout and cash management. Post-award financial administration includes compliance with Uniform Guidance, Sponsor, and other, institutional requirements. The position provides support to operational departments within the University as well as senior management within Administration and Finance. There is a firm expectation the candidate will be a subject matter expert (SME) in UR Financials (Workday Platform) and IORA (Huron Platform pre-award documentation system) within twelve months of hire.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1.Ensures the accounting necessary to support sponsored program activity is in compliance with government, sponsoring agency, and/or University requirements, and is reported accurately and timely to Sponsors. Ensures the University is in compliance with the Uniform Guidance as well as specific Sponsor requirements. Ensures all expenditures recorded to a grant are reasonable, allocable and allowable.

2.Analyzes financial reports and works cohesively with PIs and Department Personnel, and the sponsoring agency representatives. Assists and directs Research Staff Accountants as needed with grant revisions, cost transfers and cost overruns. Reviews reports prepared by Research Staff Accountants and signs off on required reports in accordance with program sponsor requirements and deadlines.

3.Performs all grant-related post-award functions including, but not limited to: invoicing Sponsors, signing off on financial reporting packages, and reviewing required supporting documentation. Provides review of work output prepared by Research Staff Accountants and provides development and improvement requirements on an as needed basis.

4.Perform Federal Contract Invoicing as delegated. Review and sign-off on final invoices for non-federal sponsors and determine resolution of unique or special situation grants.

5.Analyzes financial information and interim reports to provide accurate and timely financial recommendations to management for decision making purposes. Provides financial and system expertise to Departments via managing an extensive portfolio of projects for assigned Departments.

6.Other duties as assigned, including performing functions of vacant positions as required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field required. Minimum of 5 years of related Financial Reporting/Analysis experience required preferably in Accounting or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Required knowledge, skills and abilities: Must have thorough knowledge of grant and contract administration, including federal regulations and compliance requirements, and general accounting best practices including financial system exposure and excel skills; Must possess a knowledge of finance, have analytical capabilities, and demonstrate good interpersonal skills; Requires sound customer service skills with the ability to interact with all members of the campus community; Excellent communications skills and Computer proficiency.

Pay Range

Pay Range: $62,525 - $93,766 Annually

The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job's compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.
