Cabot has an exciting opportunity for an Sr. Research Associate to join the Inkjet Process Development team and help grow Inkjet's business in the fast-growing, emerging industrial inkjet printer market.

The Sr. Research Associate will work within the process development team and collaborate with the product development and product line teams on new product scale-up, process optimization and continuous improvement for both existing and new products.

The Sr. Research Associate will have a unique opportunity to work on both product and process development and conduct lab- and pilot-scale experiments in support of scaleup and commercialization of aqueous pigment dispersions.

We are seeking a qualified engineer, who enjoys working in the lab and pilot plant environments as well as scale-up of processes from lab to pilot and commercial scale, including process control and automation.

The Sr. Research Associate will be part of the process development team and work onsite in Billerica, MA.

How You Will Make an Impact

  • Works closely with scientists and engineers to develop new products or prototype equipment and conduct standard/non-standard procedures and tests.• Follows experimental plan as set by project leader. May prepare logistics, materials and equipment.• Executes various chemical and physical laboratory tests involving synthesis, processing, characterization and related troubleshooting with attention to observations and learning.

    Clearly documents work in notebook. • Conduct experiments on newly commissioned high-throughput equipment. May use Artificial Intelligence (A.I.) and machine learning engines to assist with experimental planning and data analysis• Generates, organizes and provides data analysis with basic interpretation of results.• Set up, troubleshoot, maintain and operate pilot plant equipment processes in a safe manner. Identify and submit samples for analytical assessment and gather and organize the testing results for group review• Understanding of how lab and pilot equipment/processes work, capable of mechanical and automation updates to equipment.• Responsible for organizing and communicating data in a way that is clear and understandable. • Assists in the training of others in areas of testing, compliance, equipment, and safety requirements.• May participate in discussions with external partners, suppliers, vendors, and customers.• Adheres to all intellectual property standards throughout area of responsibility.• Maintains work area in compliance with safety rules and regulations.

    Participates in scheduled safety meetings and completes safety training requirements. Creates and updates safety documentation for their work area. Participates in safety-focused activities such as seeking out opportunities to advance our safety culture.• Supports efforts to implement and maintain the Responsible Care Management System in line with the requirements of the RC14001 technical specification, as applicable to the site/region.• Strictly follows and complies with all SH&E procedures, standards and regulations and constantly strives for Excellence in the field of Sustainability, Safety, Health and preservation of the Environment.

What You Will Bring to Cabot

  • Bachelor degree in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, or related fields with 1+ years of related experience• Understanding and passion for any of the following topics would be ideal:

o Scale-up of products and processes from lab to pilot and commercial scaleo Process control and automation of lab and pilot scale equipment and processes o Exploration of state-of-the-art dispersion and particle size control technology

  • Strong understanding of laboratory terminology, equipment, procedures and safety practices. Knowledge of basic principles of chemistry and/or engineering.

    Basic knowledge of statistics as used in data generation, interpretation, and presentations. Basic understanding of Cabot processes, products and their functionality in customer applications.• Strong analytical, observation and problem-solving skills. Ability to draw conclusions from experimental work.• Ability to classify and organize data in a logical and orderly way as well as plan work to ensure timely completion of assignments.• Interest in working with process equipment at lab and pilot scale. Knowledge of process safety (hazard assessment, etc.) and capable to ensure safe operation.• Collaborative attitude and inter-personal skills; willing to share information and resources with peers.
