Aftermarket & Sustainment Engineering (ASE) is looking for a design engineer supporting engine centers during Maintenance Repair and Overhaul (MRO) of the Geared Turbo Fan (GTF) engines. Design engineer will interface with engine centers and provide engineering solutions which keep parts in service while maintaining engine delivery schedule. Engineering solutions allow engine centers to perform operations (blend, machine, thermal spray, etc.) which can impact the original design intent of the hardware. Engineer will investigate original design data to support operations (blend, machine, thermal spray, etc.) on non-conforming hardware in effort to return parts back to service. Engineer will have a good understanding of engine operation and mechanical design principles to create substantiating data showing the original design intent is not affected after operation.

What You Will Do

  • Interface with Engine Centers in Columbus, GA, Delta Tech Ops, and West Palm Beach, FL to better understand engine non-conformance and characterize.

  • Investigate engineering data such as engineering drawings, MRO manuals, and field history to understand original design with intent of creating technical data used to return non-conforming hardware back to service.

  • Apply mechanical design principles to complete tolerance stack-ups, balance calculations, bearing area, thread shear capability, and others.

  • Establish repair concept and validation substantiation requirements for technical dialog or engineering authorizations relating to repairs and alterations.

  • Obtain internal technical approvals from structures, CIPT design, materials, Aero, or other discipline in addition to FAA regulatory approval and coordination with the end user.

  • Continuously develop or improve repair development processes and Engineering Standard Work.

  • Interface with engine center staff, project engineering, and program management to secure priorities and understand programmatic issues.

  • Cultivate relationships with shop floor inspectors, powerplant engineers, and production engineers to improve customer experience.

  • Engineer will have exposure to all GTF PW hardware.

Qualifications You Must Have:

  • Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM)

  • Experience in an aerospace overhaul environment such as assembly and disassemble of aircraft power plants.

  • Able to manage numerous projects and organization skills. Assertive and results-oriented with good problem-solving skills. Possess excellent judgment and professional maturity.
